Got my spellfire crafted, working on finding the spellstrike pattern, or someone to craft it too.

Got my spell dmg to 801 (with int buff only). Am I ready for the 3/48/11 spec yet, or do I stick to my arcane/fire build of 40/18/3 until i get more spelldmg?

I'll be raiding Kara, ZA, with my new guild, and I don't PVP (intentionally)

Thanks.

By the looks of your gear you are well set to start Kara, but that spell damage (with int buff) is still taking into account your bonus damage coming from the arcane tree. After you get your spellstrike gear you should be fine to switch over to the 2/48/11+1 spec.

I would wait for a few more upgrades out of Kara before switching, but the spellstrike stuff is pretty easy to come by, so it won't be long. Keep running Kara get some new good badge gear/drops, and some heroic MagT and you will be geared up very well fairly quickly.

Actually it says 787 fire dmg (mouse over spell damage) with riding crop equipped, I assume he has another trinket to make up for the discrepancy.

Mhog is spot on. You'll want around 800 damage WITHOUT the arcane talent before you go full fire... and that's pushing it. I say 900 unbuffed and you'll be ready for kara, gruuls, ZA.

Edit: ...kara, gruuls, ZA as deep fire.

So I did Gruuls and Magtheridon with my new raiding guild last night. I was very lucky and picked up the Pauldrons of the fallen hero, and Leggings of the fallen hero. I promptly turned them in for my T4 scryer shoulders and leggings.

The trinket I have does in fact make up the descrepency with my spell damage. I guess I'm lucky to have a great guild. We're supposed to be doing Void Reaver tonight, Hopefull they'll let me tag along.

So 900 unbuffed spelldamage, then respec? Is that the final answer?

Thanks.

Generally for after Kara you will want the 900 unbuffed without the arcane talents. Those are driving your damage up considerably, so making the switch w/o adequately improving gear your new damage as fire unbuffed will be noticeably lower.

But really, if they are letting you tag along on content post Kara as you are currently set, you will be geared up to that level much faster.

Looking over your gear, your cloak, head, shoulders, legs, weapon, and wrist are all missing their enchants that will boost your damage as well. (I do realize you did just get the legs/shoulders)

Hey, I'm a litte confused. Erm let me link my armory...
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Spinebreaker&n=Pyrosaac

Um. Started Kara with sub 700 spell damage (10/48/3) and about a 32% chance to crit. Small mana pool as well. Upon my second Kara, I was barely 700, with about the same number of crit. In my second kara run I had the top dps with by about 5%, which is a pretty damn big margin. Not only that, but my guild has kara basically on farm, and we wiped 0 times and had it done in about 3 and a half hours, with a couple breaks even.

Why are the spell dmg requirements you guys are giving so high? I think hit rating is way more important, and also stressed should be the importance of taking the time to buy your flasks and your consumables, not to mention spell rotation and class support efficiency.

Am I talking out of my ***?

Not at all. For starting Kara I would be comfortable with 700ish damage going in. This number is unbuffed w/o arcane talents (if arcane talents are applicable). Exiting Kara you will want closer to 900 as your work into Gruul/Mag and Loot Reaver/SSC. (Raiding these with only 700 unbuffed damage means you are mostly there for cc and won't be very high on the damage chart)

I wasn't preaching Spell Hit in this thread is b/c he seems to have that understanding (his armory shows 150 spell hit), so I didn't feel it necessary to go into that. As fire spell hit>spell damage>spell crit/spell haste (imo, but the haste is debatable).

As for consumables, I don't use any in Kara b/c they aren't really needed for the group I run with (pushing my fire damage over 1200 is kind of overkill for that raid). I will bring a stack of blackened basilisk and be good for the raid (maybe some wizard oil too).

The main reason I didn't bring any of these up is b/c he was only asking if he was ready to move to the 2/48/11 spec or not. I'm guessing if he knows the main raiding fire mage spec and importance of spell hit, he has also been perusing the mage forum enough to know about spell rotation, and his guild seems advanced enough to let him know what consumables he should be bringing.

I should have paid more attention. Thanks for clearing that up. On that note, off to get more hit!

Mhog,

You are spot on my friend. I've been reading these forums since I was a lvl 1 noob.

Thanks again, I didn't even realize that Arcane was helping my spelldamage that much.
