Weapon-"neutral" grinding build?Follow

I love my daggers, but it's bothering me that my other weapon skills are far behind of my current skill limit at 68. Dr Boom has already become my favorite victim for the throwing skill, but I'm not ********* enough to try skilling up maces, swords, and fists with my current Muti setup.

I have 2 grinds ahead of me. One would be Warbeads for Kurenai/Consortium rep, the other one in Ogrila for the Repair Bot plans to get the last skill points in engineering. I figured I'd briefly switch to a combat build to get both my grinds done and skill up at the same time.

Is this gonna work?

It can work, but I would recommend just going with a combat/swords build.

If you're trying to skill up while you grind, it's going to be slow and painful. Sooo many glancing blows. Best way to level melee skills is to find the shammy NPC with the totems in northcentral SMV, and then go watch a movie.

Well that would take care of the swords only, and if it was only about the grind itself I'd just stick with my current setup. I did the endless Nesingwary grind in Nagrand with my daggers and it didn't bother me too much. Pull mob with throw, gauge, muti, KS... works better than most might expect.

My warrior is sword spec, and seeing how the "occasional extra attack" works out there, I'm just not sure how much of an effect it has for a rogue when you're just killing regular mobs. On the warrior I'm lucky if the sword spec procs once before the mob is dead. Granted, it's a huge chunk of health taken out with a huge 2h sword, but with a 1h?

I obviously don't want to do any instances during this whole thing - which I expect to be over within an afternoon at most. It's a 0.2 - 0.4 percent drop chance on the bot schematics, so I'm looking at about 500 kills there (at most), and just a few more Ogres to fix up Kurenai rep so I can get the shoulders from there at revered.

What's up with that? Where is that NPC? Getting the skill-ups done without respeccing at all would of course be the best solution. A melee dummy like Dr Boom is for anything ranged would make things very easy on the rogue and all my other toons that are still missing a few points here and there. And I love movies :)

There are 4 NPCs around SMV that have 3 totems around them.

As long as you don't kill the totems you can attack the mobs but not do any damage and they can't attack you back.

It's like easy-mode for skilling up weapon skills as long as you don't get any adds.

IIRC the "air shammy" had the least number of adds around him.

The water elemental - just north of the northern SMV road, just west of the naga compound - is the only one that doesn't have mobs pat close enough to aggro. The air, fire, and earth ones all do. Plus, there are rarely people at the water elemental area, while there's often lots at the fire/earth area and fairly regularly at the air area. Though at level 68, I'm not sure if you can actually get away with sticking yourself on the mob and going afk, at that level you might be able to accidentally pull mobs and get yourself killed.

Also, leveling your weapon (with combat potency) is about the only time shiv spamming does any good :D

Is this what I need to be looking for?

Euro realms are still down for maintenance, so I can't head there right away to see for myself.

Shiv is still 2 levels away :(

There is also the NPC in the Blasted Lands. He's in an area surrounded by lvl 50's ogres in a tunnel entrance on the west end of the mountain on the west side of the map. Just kill the ogres, get to him and auto-attack. If you don't have the quest item he won't go below 1%, the respawn on the ogres is about 8 minutes (plus you shouldn't aggro them) and he only hits, if it lands, for minimal damage.

To the OP's thread tital -

, the best non wpn spec imo is trispec hemo deadliness, 11/21/29, this one is tailored for grinding(parry instead of imp snd, setup instead of imp blind/vanish) if you still want to go that route. This spec merely requires a mace/fist/sword mh, you can still use dagger offhand, etc.

That's similar to my raiding build.

assuming a 0.3% drop rate, you'll have a 22% chance of not seeing it drop in the first 500 kills.

So I could actually use that in 5-mans too? I sure wouldn't mind using instance drops until I'm done with the honor grind for the 2 Shankers rather than spending the coin on a set of Ced's Carver (as cheap as they are now)
