Kaliban's Class Loot list has great suggestions for gear, gems, enchants, for each spec. www.wow-loot.com/

If you are a JC you can craft all of your healing gems. Which makes it a bit less expensive.

I started out by using green quality +13 healing gems in my gear. As I upgraded my gear, I upgraded the gems.

Spirit is good for mana regen since 2.4. You can get spirit from your gear selections.

Not sure how you would want to gem for PvP, since I don't PvP. Probably have a different set of gear with different focus. Someone else will have to advise.

Just my 2 coppers worth.

Discipline priests can do very well in level 70 PVP. Initially you'll want to gem for survivability, which means putting Mystic Dawnstones (+10 resil) and Steady Talasites (+6 stam/+4 resil) in your yellow/blue sockets and teardrop cuts (+heal) in your red sockets. Teardrop Living Rubies cost a bundle, so you might want to use Teardrop Blood Garnets in the gear you'll replace quickly.

Once you're at 490 Resilience or so--Full Vindicator's/Gladiator's is around there--you can start gemming for your role as an offensive dispeller/manaburner. Spell Hit is valuable for manaburning, and Spell Haste is valuable for both roles.

For PVE, gem for +healing and +spirit, and maybe for spell haste. Teardrop cuts and purified pearls (+heal/+spi) are probably the first things you'll fill your sockets with. Luminous cuts (+int/+heal) can be put in yellow sockets if the socketing bonus is worth getting. Sparkling cuts (+spi) are also a viable option if you want to trade a little bit of HPS for a little bit of MPS.
