So confused about dw dps gearingFollow

#1 May 05 2008 at 8:27 PM Rating: Decent
On my warrior I have full t4set and t4ish gear and full arena gear.
What I was really confused about is that I heard that when I hit a certain hit rating, I should stack crit instead of hit. With precision, what should my target crit/hit be for pve dps?

As much as possible?

You could read the FAQ about PvE Dps.

Long story short. 9% to hit. ~30%+ crit. APAPAPAPAPAPAPAPAP. armor pen. expertise helps.

All depend on how many hit you got your total AP Crit %
To be honest I dont see a big improvement on hit over other stats.
I am in t5 and some t6 quality gear. over 50% of my Dmg come from yellow hit so hit dose not affect those.
After you get over 90 hit you should try to get expertise cap shard of conptent should put you almost there if you have the talent weapon mastery.

If you look at my case i need to get 16 hit rating to be better then 10 str.
1 STR 2 AP 1 AGI 1 Hit 1 Crit 7 ArP 1 Exp Rat 1 Haste
1,00 ,909 ,648 ,656 ,881 ,933 ,000 ,754

Link to my warrior's Armory.

I do fine with this setup, usually on top of the dmg meter at the end unless I have to whip out the tanking gear I wish I'd never got my hands on. I have little over 9% hit without precision. So thats about 12% hit with it, base miss rate for DW is 19%. So thats about a 7% miss rate. IMO, if I were to get a full 19% hit chance via gems/gear, my dps would go down alot. One time in Gruul's, I had a marks hunter, feral druid, and enhancement shammy in my group. My attack power got up to 3900 at one point with everything happening. (shammy 10% AP buff, trueshot, hourglass trinket, rampage and BS) I would HATE to have that go down just to fix something that isn't truly broken.

You should be fine as long as you have about a 5%-7% miss rate. With flurry/mongoose, you're hitting so fast that the 5-7% doesn't matter much. Be sure to fight behind all mobs if you can to avoid parries as well. It helps out alot.

(90 hit is fine :O)

What?

Read my sig, go to the faq, go to maxdps.com for a deep analysis of your characters gear.

... 95 to hit is the minimum you want. that plus precision is 9% to hit. Which makes your yellow attacks, specials, skills, etc... never display 'missed'. While they still can be dodged and parried. But you shouldn't see parries, if you dps correctly.

More than 95 hit, means you hit more with your auto attacks.

AP and Crit provide more real improvements to DPS:
Crit for well, more damage, and keeping flurry proced, which is a huge increase to overall DPS.

AP provides the backbone from which the rest of the stats play from. AP, derived from str (str is better than AP), provides a D/w war more overall dps improvements all around.

Expertise helps to a point, it's like having a second hit rating stat, only to reduce your chances of seeing 'dodge' appear on your screen, but with 2% dodge reduction from talents you only need around 50-60 expertise rating to cap your expertise for DPS.

Armor Pen is more difficult to appreciate. If you don't hit for a lot, and you get some ArP, you wont see a huge difference in DPS outputs. But if you have a large AP and slower speed, higher dps weapons, you'll notice more of a difference. Armor Pen caps depend on the boss your fighting. Many bosses, have 7700 armor. So counting, sunder x5, Faerie Fire, and Curse of Recklessness, the armor total should 3690. With executioner, which is 840 ArP, 2850 armor is left over. Which is kind overkill to get... but hey what ever.

You shouldn't need to be told how to gear and min/max after you get out of Kara. And in Kara is where you'll cut your teeth, unless your haphazardly lucky, as the OT/DPS.

No. It's 24% base for auto attacks, and add 4% to that to account for boss badassitude. But your specials, skills, etc... are at a 5% base and add 4% for boss badassitude (level difference).

Well after going through the whole t4 experience, I found out that items that drop from PvE raids aren't always the best gear I can have. Now I'm mixing some of my PvP gear with my PvE gear to have 9%ish extra to hit and rest crit.
