just messing around with hunter builds while i'm at work (bossing an orientee around ftw), would like to see if i truly learned the gist of the different PvE builds.

BM

MM. didn't see anything in the survival tree that was worth getting for 20 points so i went down the BM tree instead.

SV. again, didn't see anything worth getting in the BM tree so i went down the MM tree instead.

in some cases i had assigned 42 points into one tree and was trying to figure out where to take one point out, and whatever i came up with was the best i could do.

You don't really do MM for PvE anymore, its pretty much relegated to PvP. I also can't really speak on SV specs, as I have little to no interest in killing my personal dps for that spec.

BM however... Your spec is pretty far off. Just stick to the cookie-cutter BM build. Its cookie-cutter for a reason, its the best. It's also in the sticky, but you apparently don't want to read that so..

Cookie-cutter BM build

Imp revive pet is HUGE because it saves you mana and time when a fight accidentally kills your pet (which greatly hampers your dps)

Imp mend pet is the ONLY way for you to remove debuffs off your pet, it also keeps your pet alive better

Spirit bond is mostly worthless, because most PvE stuff you won't be taking damage, and the damage you take will be far greater than it can heal.

Maxing out animal handler is also a key use of points, it is the ONLY way for your pet to get +hit. +Hit is the single best way to increase dps in the game (until you're capped).

Rapid killing reduces the cooldown of your rapid fire by 2 minutes, which is a significant increase in your dps.

Most survival raiding builds are below 41 points in the SV tree itself.

Raiding as MM is pointless, it is out-dps'd and out-buff'd by both SV and BM.

BM: Spirit bond is bad, animal handler is good, imp rez pet is good, endurance is bad.

SV: GFTT and RK>Imp Mark, 1 in imp wc and 1 in savage>entrapment, no trap talents needed in raiding, 5 in survivalist and deterrence is good, full TotH is good, so put one more point there, master tact and readiness are both worthless IMO, and in a lot of other hunter's opinions.

I'm running with an odd SV build currently, with no points in BM so that I keep a consistant rotation, 3 points in barrage, and 2 leftover points in master tact.

BM:
Imp Revive, Rapid Killing (2-3 times per boss instead of 1-2), Animal Handler all all important.

MM:
Missed out on a ton of important things. Go for the Throat, Rapid Killing, Careful Aim, Monster Slaying, Humanoid Slaying, plus Barrage/Imp Barrage if you're going a 1.5:1. I'd probably go something like this if I was doing 1.5:1. That's assuming I was dumb enough to try and raid Marks, though >.>

Survival:
Once again, no GftT or Rapid Killing, that's important to have. Master Tac and Readiness are mostly a waste. Possibly want iAotH and Focused Fire for higher damage, instead of Imp Mark and full TotH.
EDIT: Survival seems to have the most leeway for odd builds. Standard is 5/20/36, but I've seen 7/20/34, 0/25/36, 0/28/33, 5/23/33, 0/20/41, and so on. I'd personally probably stick to 7/20/34 or 0/25/36, depending on how much raid support versus damage I wanted to do and how good my gear was.

I used http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cxZVxbRVZIhzMhsRhVhh for Survival for a while. I liked it pretty well. There are a few places in survival where you just have to stick points to move up,Trap Mastery, Imp FD, and Deflection for me. Those points are really just flavor. I hate seeing FD resists so thats why the point is there. I figured I'd throw one into TM for the small benefit for heroics (when I'm not being too lazy to do one).
