Damage and DPS outputFollow

I just wanted to know from all of you more experienced shammies out there about how much damage and dps I should be putting out as elem specced. (If there's already a thread please let me know).

As of right now I'm level 63, and when we ran BF and Ramps yesterday, I was putting out around 360 dps (mainly in my healing gear), compared to the others' 100 something. (some were a couple levels lower though). Is this optimal at my level or should I be doing way more damage than that?

Thanks for the input.

I never kept a damage meter while leveling and didn't actually even start tracking my DPS until I hit 70, I just went by total damage done if anyone else in my party happened to have a meter. And honestly, you don't really need to be caring at 63 either. The content's not hard, min/maxing isn't in effect or even remotely necessary... Just do as much damage as you can while staying under your tank's threshhold.

I dunno. If you're really that concerned about it, maybe someone else can help you.

360-400 was around what I was getting on my rogue at 63 finishing up my Zangar quests.

At 70 my shaman initially got ~600 dps when I finally decided to switch to elemental, and is now at a point where if not threat-capped he can put out between 1k and 1.2k DPS (depending on how much Chainlightning AOE opportunity exists) and in Hyjal I think I push more like 1.7k DPS with Magma going off most of the time (since it's nearly 1k DPS by itself through most of each trash wave)

What's the best way to track your DPS? I've never really played with meters either.

Get Recount.

360dps at level 63 sounds fine. I was between 280 and 320 at that level, but I was enhance and had to make due with some suboptimal weapons. And that damn thing called "weapon skill."

ya dont worry about it as long as you and your group are doing the instances ina reasonable amount of time there is no problem.

Really at that level you should be doing as much dps as you can and helping heal when **** hits the fan, so your dps is not as important as other but ya shaman are imo Over powered in 5 man content, the buffs offered are great, the ability to off heal can be godsend in 5 mans, and the burst dmg we put out doesnt allow alot of classes to catchup like they do in higher raids.

% mans is where we shine as long as the tank doesn't need to much CC ^^

anyhow have fun bud I am sure your doing fine.

Yeah, I realize that I don't have to worry about it at this level, it's just moreso a "want to know" type of thing. I'm not worried about it at all actually.

Must be a rogue thing to be panicky about your DPS. Smiley: tongue

After every boss my guild downs my brother immediately posts his SW Stats into our private channel that we share with another raider and a few RL friends from our guild, because he knows I'm going to ask for it.

Any shamans know if there's a resource out there for shaman DPS like there is for rogues, that being the rogue DPS spreadsheet?

I'll look at EJ for it later today, just thought I'd ask around here first; it'd be handy in choosing the biggest DPS upgrade for a lot of shamans.

For elemental shammies, there isn't as good a spreadsheet as rogues have. Personally, at 70, I just do rough weightings, since (unlike a rogue) the relative values of the stats are unlikely to change much. Elemental shammies also have more clearly defined "requirements": you need hit cap, fully buffed 35-40% crit, and then as much spell damage as you can get (around 900 early on). At that point, I rate +dmg as one, crit as .8, haste as 1.2, and just judge gear based on that. Not as precise as for rogues, but then again there's much less variance in gear.

For enhancement shammies, there's a DPS sim that you can run for several thousands or ten of thousands of hours to get "real" DPS and EP weights, but because it's a sim and not an average results will vary from test to test, depending on how long you run them for. Manual stat input as well, which can be annoying. It's linked on EJ's Enhance Theorycraft Thinktank page.

Must be lol. I'm weening off the dps fiendishness, and transitioning to the healing aspect.

This is also why I'm not too worried about it, just wanting to know. Because at 70, I'm switching back to resto.
