Unfortunately, rogues are almost forced to spec ShS to deal with all the comps in higher rated brackets.

Not sure I understand what you mean here and I'm a bit confused.

As I said before, I haven't played muti in a long time (2 patches ago in fact!) so all I've experienced so far is ShS with mediocre stuff and in the low brackets (1500-1650). All I could do was thus ask for advice from more experienced players.

On AJ, I have received from rogues with personnal ratings around 2000-2300, which looks quite impressive to me. So I would tend to trust their advice. And their advice is: whith a Disc Priest, Muti is clearly a better choice than ShS (not only against a specific setup, but generally speaking). The reason is that, with a Disc Priest, you have a short CC window in which you must be able to take down one guy, this being best achieved with Muti (although Muti deals less sustained dam than ShS or combat). Also, they claim that the deep poison build is best because those quickly applied and unremovable poisons help a lot.

I see that you're in the 17xx bracket now and I don't know what quotes you've achieved in the past. In any case, I'm not looking down on you in this regard... cause I have never achieved such ratings myself. Just wondering on what ground you say that ShS is better in higher brackets. Also, have you played the deep poison build they recommend lately, with decent gear (I have not)?

The only comp I can think of where mut is substantially better is rogue/mage 2s. 9% more damage on shatters is HUGE.

For anything else, though, it's usually better to be ShS.

As I said before, I usually failed as a ShS rogue because I was missing a few percents to take down 1 guy before the other one got out of CC. Mut might have done the job there. I say "might", because that's assuming I can stick on my target, which will be significantly harder with only 1 set of cooldowns and no ShS.

it's a hell of a lot harder to stay on a druid, which is really what needs to be done if your priest can't pillar hump.

Yes, but Tyrandor was not using a deep poison builds. Many rogues have confirmed that the 49/00/12 build is much better than 41/20/00. The reason, again, is that you don't need better sustained damage as Muti rogue, you need good burst damage. And the deep poison build also helps keeping the target poisoned (which should prevent the ennemy from fleeing to some extent). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Muti is an easy mode, I guess it's harder than with ShS, but, once mastered, probably also more effective with a partner such as a Disc Priest than ShS.

I hear so many different opinions that it is hard to make a decision. I'm close to getting the 105 badges I need for my second dagger. I guess I'll try to copy my rogue on the PTR and try mutilate. If it works, I'll purchase the dagger MH. If not, I'll get the fist MH (the shiv being a good OH weapon for both Muti and ShS).

The main problem as mut is that you're pretty much ****** against a druid keeping Abolish up on his partner, whatever that may be (warrior, hunter, lock).

Your damage really suffers against a team with a druid.

Yes, I got to 1956 last season as mutilate with a priest, so I'm fairly confident that I know how to play and spec for the role. I also didn't have that much gear last season; two pieces of S2, two pieces of HWL gear, and S2 shiv, with Emerald Ripper MH.

If you can handle a warrior on your priest, then mut can do well for you. There is no way though, that you will stay on a good druid as mut. The comp will basically rely on the warrior overextending and out-ranging his druid's heals/Abolish.

In the end, you just need to make up your own mind and play what you think is best. I did that last season when everyone and their mother told me that combat maces was best, but I specced mut because I wanted to.

I played mut on my rogue at his 69 twink stage, it was a great deal of fun, but you ran out of options pretty fast.

ShS, on the other hand, has so many survivability options you can wear a great deal of pve gear and pump out almost as much damage as a mut rogue wearing full pvp gear (assuming you have t5 or higher), also ShS is just entertaining.

Edit: Forgot to say that spam shiv'ing crip onto a druid will run them out of mana very fast if they're continually trying to get away. For the droods bad at going bear, this is fun.

I passed on mace spec last season, and passed on shs swords this season...stayed with muti through thick and thin and still love it. I still suck at pvp but love the spec. I hit a 3.9k muti crit on a priest in the isle yesterday, and w/ my welfares it makes it worth it to me :)

If your priest is dispelling abolish, any good druid will just sit spamming Lifebloom.

Last time I checked, 14% mana > 220 mana.

Also, 4/5 Vile is for terribads. 5/5 or GTFO.

4/5 for ShS build.

5/5 for mut, yeah.

Personally I'd prefer ShS with pve gear/pvp gear mix in any team comp, mut is too easily locked down, and if you run into a double dps team that sees you're mut, you're gonna get fried.

I ran a 2v2 with a ShS rogue into the 1900s before I even had any really decent gear on my priest, the only time a warrior/healer team pissed us off was when the warrior was paired with a shammy, if the warrior got a couple of lucky WF procs it was game over.

No. You're an idiot.

Read my PvP FAQ.

5/5 Vile if you're getting it, always. Lethality isn't enough of a damage boost to take 5/5.

Oh noes! How about the rogues that fill out 3/3 imp evisc and 2/2 imp expose armor and only get 1/5 vile poisons... yet maintain a 2400 rating in all three brackets?

I can understand you being a douche about something that's definite, but those last points are up to personal preference and playstyle.

Uh, if you can find a rogue that's specced 20/0/41 and has 3/3 Imp Evis, 2/2 Imp EA, and 1/5 Vile, and 2400+ in every bracket, I'd love to see their armory.

Until then, please sit down and shut the **** up.

Majorities don't lie. Ergo, 5/5 Vile and 4/5 or 2/5 Lethality is better than 5/5 Lethality and 4/5 Vile.

Wait for more people to spec out of their combat raid builds and I can link more.

edit: how could I forget about reflex? his 3v3 is actually in the 2500s.

None of those players but the first has every team over 2k, much less 2.4k.

And actually, you'll notice that I said, "if you can find a rogue that's specced 20/0/41 and has 3/3 Imp Evis, 2/2 Imp EA, and 1/5 Vile, and 2400+ in every bracket, I'd love to see their armory."

You pretty much failed on that one, chief.

Edit to your edit: Reflex plays not only in Reckoning, but plays an 18/0/43 build extremely similar to my current build.

He also plays a melee train comp in 3s, meaning that he's got a warrior to use MS and Spamstring, making Vile worthless.

Good God, use your ******* brain when you look up these players.

Let people respec for pvp, as I know I've seen a few rogues that meet the stated criteria.

Go have a few beers and unwind a little bit.
