to the above poster, if your using your skills right, weapon dps > spellpower, i was using the headless horseman's sword till i got the chess sword and decided to switch it out for the spellpower rep sword from KoT, my threat generation was cut down by ~300-500 TPS. with what i currently have, im holding threat over people doing 1500 dps pretty easily, and 2200 dps people depending on their class (which is far and beyond what i need to be generating since auditors say im only geared for mags) and less overall dps. post patch spellpower hasnt helped me whatsoever (other then what i get from stam)

i keep seeing people say spellpower is still the way to go but so far without any spellpower gear i generate quite a bit of threat (and like i said above, trying to go with spellpower has done nothing but hinder my threat in attempts at seeing why people still reccomend it at 70)

My post pre-dated the 3.0.2 patch. Spellpower on ANYTHING is no longer needed since you get a spellpower bonus equal to 30% of your stamina now. Prior to 3.0.2 this wasn't the case. Now taking all of the Prot Warrior gear you can and just loading up like crazy on stamina AND getting some strength on your gear is better than any item with spellpower.

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29362;source=live with a potency (+20 Strenght) enchant used to be a horrible idea for a Paladin tanking sword pre-3.0.2, but now it is fantastic. With 1000+ stam and just a few items with a little spelldamage on them, I have 360 spellpower and can generate enough threat to keep the dps from pulling aggro with no real problems.

I've requested that this thread be unstickied since the information isn't relevent to the new version of the game or the WotLK expansion. Given time, I or someone else will compile a similar post that deals with Wrath.

Thanks for the great discussion here, I'm proud to have been a part of spreading the fever of Prot Pallies :D
