Are you seriously that upset about it? I mean it's one shard and you are in a BG with constant killing. I get more pissesd about losing the pet/resummon than the loss of a shard especially since you pointed out that you can get 10+ shards in the time it takes to run away from your pet and kill yourself.
The Hunter pet vs. Warlock minion recall thing has been discussed to death. It's a slap in the face that we have to spend time, mana and reagents to regain our minion if it runs out of range when the Hunter doesn't. Now also removing shard returns is adding insult to injury, because unless I have a spare shard, I can't even use my 15-minute CD to insta-summon a new one.
As a SL/SL Warlock, I'm pretty screwed if I lose my minion. Buh-bye 20% damage mitigation, +200 spell damage, +5% overall damage, +70 resistance, stealth detection and a decent chunk of pet damage.
It's so bad that if I lose my minion while in battle, I start spamming DoTs left and right in preperation for a quick death. I can't just hit a button and have the minion by my side again with all the buffs that follow. A reason still unknown to many, because the feature would be easy to implement.
Also, getting 10+ shards in the time it takes to run out of range of your pet and kill yourself somehow is while you're not actively engaged in battle and is tagging along, spamming Drain Soul on anyone at 10% health or less.

what i think is awesome is that an already very OP class wants to make themselves even more OP. i personally have a warlock and i laugh when i hear warlocks ***** about nerfs here and there.
What spec is your Warlock? Destruction or Affliction by chance? They don't need their minions. They're like Survival or Marksmanship Hunters. The pet is simply extra DPS. To a Demonology Warlock, it's what makes and breaks us. It literally defines us. The fact that you can turn me from OP to gimped by simply killing my minion, or rooting it and fearing me, means something is wrong. A Demonology Warlock with an immortal minion might be OP, but anyone with just a wee bit of skill tucked under the belt will know to focus fire on the minion if they see the Soul Link buff icon.
