Should i go Gnomish or Goblin Engineering? I am almost 70. I plan to PvP. Mostly arena, but i will do some PvE with my guild.

I see rogue's using the goblin rocket launcher...I don't know why, but whatever...

Honestly both offer crap, gnome has more bops and the goblin stuff like bombs can be made for you by another goblin eng...I still haven't picked one on my rogue and I have 30 days played at 70 now. Look up the lists and see which you like

Because killing someone with the rocket launcher is hilarious, most likely.

Goblin, for sure.

Bombs + Rocket Launcher + Area 52 teleporter = so much win.

I am gobby engineering and I love it. The Rocket Launcher's ability is wicked and allows me to extend my stunlocks along with still doing white damage while casting it.

You also get knockback for like.. 1 sec, which I doubt so it helps you in any stunlocks lol.. the rocket launcher is purely for fun to stun people who running away, that's all. :P

I haven't tried it but I read it's a 5 sec cast (5 min CD). If so, how is it of any help in pvp? Plus, it's not a "ranged" weapon with which DT would work. How can a rogue live without DT in pvp? In my eyes, it would only be viable with a switch macro, but the GCG associated with switching weapons would make this option less desirable in my eyes. Frankly, I had the impression that this is used mostly for the + 45 stam bonus (but here again, I find the bonuses of the pvp epics to be better).

But maybe I'm missing sth? Would love to, because frankly, I'm wondering why I'm an engineer. Nothing useful can be used in arenas, except the googles (which are ok).

You can still use DT; it is a trinket.

Purely a fun item, though.

Aha, I see. Thanks.

Then I guess I'd rather use my Deathly Gnome Ray for the damage potential. But still, to be serious, I think that other trinkets are way better in pvp and that having to switch trinkets, wait 30 sec for the rocket launcher to activate, etc... make it too much of a burden for it to be practicable.

Just to stop any rumors about the Rocket Launcher.. it stuns for longer than it knocks you over, and has a 2 min cooldown. It also has +45 Sta, so its not a terrible option for PvP. It does take a while to fire, so you may want to Gouge then use it lol

It sadly does not work on bosses that can't be stunned (kinda silly that they couldn't separate the damage from the stun, but whatever). Woulda been kinda fun for pulling as a Warrior tank.

I had a Nigh Invulnerability belt made a few days ago (I'm Goblin, and its a Gnomish recipe, but its BoE and doesn't require 1 kind or the other). It's a lot of fun, hasn't backfired on me yet =P
(4000 dmg absorb over 8 sec, 5 min cd, ~14% fail chance)

Oh, and I've basically never gotten Goblin Jumper Cables XL to work in Kara... just a heads up =(

Just to demistify something since the OP speaks of pvp and arenas.

For pvp, engineering can help. You can craft yourself very nice epic googles and other stuff like the night invulnerability belt, extrene rocket boots, bombs, etc.

BUT all this stuff is going to get obsolete sooner or later. As of now, I'm only wearing the epic googles (mostly for nice AP boost and the detection boost) but they'll get replaced once S4 is out (I'll get the S4 helm).

SO, to conclude, do not count on engineering to get you ubber stuff on the long run. The only engineering item I'll be using soon will be... the XL goblin jumper cables (they do work about 50% of the times).

And this is even worse in arenas, where most of the engineering items are disabled.

Just to clarify the real usefulnees of engineering and allow you to possibly save a lot of time and money leveling it (it IS very costly starting around 340-350). So engineering is not particularly bad as a profession, it's just not the best for pvp (which is true for most professions where the crafted good become obsolote at some time).

To tell you the truth, I have just powerlevelled enchanting from 0 to 365 in a few hours and it has cost me around 1k (I have arcane dusts and greater planar essences in my bank so I did not ahve to buy those). I personnally found enchanting much easier to level up and probably also more useful for high-end pvp since you get to enchant your rings (which is possible only for an enchanter).

Hope this helps, have fun with engineering if you still decide to go for it.

The Nigh Invulnerability belt works in Arenas =)
I'm actually not sure what is specifically disabled in Arena, but I'm guessing the Cables are because they have a 30 min cd.

I don't use my Deathblow X-11 Goggles for PvP, but I am using them for Raids.
The repair bots are nice to have for Raids too (I made 65 repair bots to cap engineering). In retrospect, I capped engineering because I had delusions that I would get the X-44 goggle plans... Now I cringe when I see a different class' 2nd goggle plans on the AH for 10k+ g.

But yeah, some people drop engineering once they can replace the goggles =/
(I like them more than T4, and will probably only use T4 for the set bonus, since I have the gloves)

Most crafted epics are becoming less useful (for example, leveling BS and crafting an epic weapon is probably more time consuming than PvP'ing for an S1 weapon, which usually has higher DPS). I believe they're going to increase the crafting cap when WotLK comes out, so there will probably be new stuff that makes it worthwhile again.

If I get other characters to 62, I will level engineering to 350 on them so they can have the epic goggles shortly after entering Outlands though =)
(since you can buy Primal Nethers now)

The belt works in arena, yes. But I am not sure it is worth using it, which implies giving up the great stats from a pvp epic belt.

What we say is basically the same: engineering has its uses for pve (cables, repair bot, etc.) and some use for pvp (googles, belt, etc.) but the pvp side gets obsolete at some time.

In my eyes, it's not worth leveling engineering JUST for pvp. I'd rather recommend leveling up enchanting for the ring bonus that nothing else can replace as of now.

I point it out because the OP says he'll pvp, mostly arena (in arena, most of the pvp goodies will not work; for instance, I would definitely use the frost nova bombs if I could, but I'm pretty sure they won't work in the arena).
