Finally dinged 70!

...now what?

Seriously, I need advice. I leveled outlands by questing only, the only instances I did were Ramps and Blood furnace once each. I haven't PvPed a whole lot, and I'm just sitting on greens and blues. Feral specced, with enough in resto to get OoC. Want to DPS/offtank in instances and PvP a lot. Elemental LW, but not far enough in to get primal intent.

Basically I'm a blank slate. What rep should I grind, should I PvP or instance for gear, what instances have good drops, should I go after a set first, weapons or armor, is there a good build that I should change to, etc?

If you had a brand spankin new 70 feral druid to gear up any way you saw fit, how would you start?

Any advice/ridicule is thanked in advance.

Hey man, congratulations on 70!
The first thing i did was hit the bg's.
Theres no easier way to get decent **** gear, you dont need overwhelming skill or effort, or even gear, but these factors help to avoid you bashing your head in while watching your character getting there head bashed in.(They dont call them welfare epics for nothing.)

If you havent run many instances then you may not be able to buy the blue pvp set yet, or not many peices. If you want to have a decent start in bgs with some resilience start running, Hellfire, Coilfang,Tempest Keep,Caverns of Time and Auchindoun, to get honoured and buy the gear. This may give you a bit of a pve collection to gear aswell.

I didnt buy this PvP first up but have bought a few of the Resto pieces, so Bging naked is eligible just be prepared to get beaten by outgeared opponents.

As a feral druid wanting to tank, you will use a few pvp peices, especially the shoulders as there is no upgrade until the tiered gear, at the moment i have the S1 helmet, gloves and shoulders plus the vindicators belt, then i wear my bought clefthoof set(ideal for tanking druids, awesome set.) I have a few other tanking gear, like the necklace from the easy sethekk halss quest outside the instance. Oh but the S2 gear is going to be buyable by honour once the next patch is out in a week or two, so wait for that to come out before buying anything.

Sorry if its been a big read, hope it helps.
Good luck, have fun.
Cya.

Congratulations. It'd be very helpful if you linked your armory so we can check out your gear, reputation, and talents.

If you haven't run across it yet, the site www.emmerald.net is a veritable gold mine for feral druids. It shows every piece of gear at every slot...ranked. So you can easily see where you're at, then check out your upgrade options and learn how to get them. Among the pieces you'll see the PvP stuff you can get from arena or battlegrounds.

I agree that getting into the battleground scene is a good idea for gearing up quickly. I geared up mostly without it, but it's a lot slower of a process. The S1 shoulders are a no-brainer for tanking because they're best available for a long time, and the S1 helm is a great value because it's good for both tanking and dps. I'm going to wait til S4 starts so I can see how it impacts pricing of S1 and S2...given my (lessening) distaste for battlegrounds I might buy S1 stuff anyway if it's dramatically cheaper in terms of honor and marks.

Here's my armory, sorry I didn't link it before. Be prepared to be underwhelmed.

To be fair on myself tho, I did get the blue honor PvP chest and legs, since I was already honored with those people. I leveled up wierd and got good rep and money somehow (1000 + g), probably cause I did nothing but quest, no grinding.

Also, is it worth it to try and get a healing set, in case my guild needs me to do it?

No one's mentined it yet, but the first rep you'll want to grind is Cenarion Expedition, it's a LOOONG road to Exalted for your Earthwarden. You also want Revered with Keepers of Time for Glyph of the Defender. Once you decide between Aldor and Scryer (neither one is significantly better for ferals), you'll want Exalted rep for Greater Inscription of Warding or Greater Inscription of the Knight.

Already aldor actually, and is it worth it to get the Earthwarden at this point, or should I just try to get a higher level staff right off the bat (like, oh say, staff of the forest lord)?

Crap, keep forgetting, should I look at primal intent at all? I could gring LW farily fast if need be, or is PvP gear better?

Sorry to be dumping all these questions on you, you guys are awesome.

Staff of the forest lord is nice, but, Starting out you would be better off with the earthwarden. 500 armor = over 2500 in bear form. Plus you get the wonderful defense rating to help keep yourself above the uncritable mark when you start picking up the tier gear. I can also think of alot of other gear you can pick up for 150 badges that would be much more beneficial when starting out. 150 badges takes a good while to get, lots of heroic grinding.

I apparently lost the whole post I typed comparing the increase in tanking stats with the cost in badges. Basicly, Slikk's Cloak of Placation and the 2 badge tanking rings are the biggest upgrades for their badge cost. (Depending on what you already have). Of all the badge gear, going to Staff of the Forest Lord from Earthwarden (compared to other upgrades from T4) is the lowest increase in tanking stats per badge.

Not that it isn't a big upgrade, it's just the smallest big upgrade, for the highest cost.

The primal strike set is worth getting if you're already LW. I wouldn't go out of my way for a healing set, you'll probably pick up all the healing leather anyway (unless there's also a resto druid with you). Reason being, priests want spirit, but can't use leather. Paladins and shamans can use leather, but want mp/5 over spirit. Most healing leather has a lot of spirit on it.

I did the math on the gear I have, counting the gear I will equip at 70, with gems and enchants that I have/will have and the 2 pvp pieces I almost have enough honor for at the moment.

This is what I come up with. It's meeting the standards for heroics/Kara easily.

14,237 hp unbuffed (14,453 self buffed)
21,550 armor unbuffed (21,800 self buffed)
30-31% dodge
Uncrittable

The only thing I am missing that would drop these numbers down about 1,500 armor is that cloak from Mechanar. Needless to say, once I get enough honor from bg's to get my two pvp pieces, I think I'll run Mech over and over till I get it. It's a make or break piece for my gear.

Here's my armory. As you can see from this I don't have all the gear I have on, but I am in bear form since I geared mostly for tanking. I have the heavy clefthoof chest and legs in the bank. They are already enchanted for +6 stats to chest and nethercleft leg armor +40 stam + 10 agil on the legs. Also going to be putting the +agil chant onto the gloves and bracers. The pvp shoulders will get the honored def rating glyph until I can get to exalted and I am working on my KoT rep to get the head glyph

This should get you a pretty good idea of the starting gear that most 70's enter into Heroics/Kara with as a tank. I am slightly behind the curve on DPS kitty gear although I do have a Staff of Natural fury sitting in the bank for me when I hit 70

If you want to tank, then this thread on Emmerald's forum is the perfect guide to preparing yourself for Kara and Heroics.
