if i were to tank an instance in bearform, would it be better if i used a slower 2h weapon and if i were to dps in cat form i would use a faster 1h mace?

Your attack speed is normalized in animal forms. Don't remember what to though...

In Bear form your attack speed is 2.5 and is normalized to a base DPS that is increased by your attack power (you can increase with +strength or +attack power gear)

In Cat form your attack speed is 1.0 and is normalized to a base DPS that is increased by Agility and attack power (again you can increase attack power with +strength and +attack power)

It doesn't matter what speed or what DPS your weapon does. The only thing we get off our weapons is any Stats and/or armor it might have.

With the 2.4 patch we can now use sharpening/weightstones that you can put on your weapon and the bonus will also apply to your feral form DPS.

Hopefully that's the answer you were going for.

ok thank you for your help. That cleared up a lot.

So the only thing druids get off of weapons is stats and armor?

what about the overrall attack damage? it doesn't increase with harder hitting weapons?

Yes.
No.

This is actually a great thing about being a druid, because you have tons of flexibility in choosing a weapon. Just pick anything you can wield with the best stats. It doesn't matter what your weapon skill is, either.

Your damage does not change regardless of what you have equipped. The only difference is the stats on the weapon(+stam, agil, strength, armor etc...).

Every time you level your hit skill in feral form is at the max for that level, I.E. you normally gain weapon skill points by using a weapon to kill things during that level. In feral form you are already at the max skill for that particular level. So you don't have to worry about keeping up your skill on anything from stave, maces, daggers, etc.... When you pop into caster form to hit things you will not be very efficient unless you keep your skill rating up, but you aren't going to hit very hard either way because druid mechanics are built for you to use feral forms for melee.

When you get up higher you may melee some in Moonkin form for mana regen but it's more for that than to do any actual damage with a weapon.

All you have to do is make sure you can equip everything you can so you can get the best stat set on whichever weapon happens to have the things you are looking for at that time.

Cat and bear form DPS is a set amount that increases as you level, up to 60. After 60, your base form DPS doesn't increase, which is why you see rediculous amounts of feral AP on OL weapons. We're basicly using level 60 greens with really good stats.

Naked in cat form, my tool-tip DPS is 99.5, 90.5 before Naturalist, 54.9 when you take away the extra damage from my AP. That's right between the DPS value of a level 60 green 1H axe (47.9) and a level 60 2H axe (62.1). A level 70 green 1H axe has a DPS of 65.0, a 2H green axe is 84.7.

Edit: typo

Oh great so you were prancing around naked in cat form showing off your weapons.... Your parents would be so proud. lol

It is pretty messed up that our entire DPS is based off of attack power with no opportunity to increase it based on anything else. But I can't complain as much as I would like to, since they do give us weapons with insane amounts of AP on them.

I do have a Staff of Natural Fury sitting in my bank courtesy of my awesome guild loving my furry self.
