When can I move on?Follow

#1 May 01 2008 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
Hey everybody, noob warrior here.
Hit 70 awhile ago and trying to get geared for Kara and heroics and such.
I tank well, haven't had any problems tanking skill wise, my main problem is when can I begin to move on to Arc, Bot and mech? Im sitting on 440 Def rating now with 30% eva/parry. Still trying to get ANY piece of gear from Slabs (0/7 on everything that can drop there) but Id like to be able to do something else other than Slabs. I have about 12k HP and 12k Armor, with no enchants yet, is that acceptable enough to move on to Arc? The reason I ask is right now Im having a hard time advancing gear wise, and quite a few pieces I need to upgrade come from those. Should I stick with Slabs till I get the trinket/shield/Shoulders or can I Search for Arc AND slabs?
Gear is as follows:

Head: Felsteel Helm
Neck: Mark of the ravenguard
Shoulders: The ones from Durn, dont remember the name ; ;
Body: Heavy Earthforged Breastplate (Almost revered with the aldor)
Back: Cloak of eternity
Wrist: Sha'tari Wrought Armguards
Hands: Felsteel Gauntlets
Waist: Tenacious Defender (One reason I want to move on to arc...)
Legs: Timewardens leggings
Feet: Sha'tari wrought greaves
Rings: Band of the unbreakable/Androumu's tear
No real tanking trinket yet.

Not to be a prick but I'm pretty sure that could have been answered in at least 1 or 2 of the stickied posts...

For a more helpful response (though you should read the stickies), you don't need to get into those instances to gear up for kara at all. There are really good pre-kara gear you can get by following quest chains, and by doing so will easily put you over 490 defense.

I spent maybe a week doing all the quests etc. to get geared up, and had about 500 def, 12.5k health and 40% avoidance (with enchants). And I didn't go into arc or slabs to get those stats (although doing the quests in slabs will improve 2 of my gear pieces, it has nothing to do with what actually drops).

Point is to go check out the sticky and look for the rewards from quests, rather than trying to get everything from instances, or you will take a long time to get geared.

Once you get the quest rewards, then you can go seek upgrades while you aren't raiding kara or doing heroics.

Thanks for the responses, not quite what I was looking for though.
I mostly was just asking if with the stats and gear I am currently in possession of, can I do Arc, bot and Mech? Its not necessarily gear, its also just pure tanking experience that I would like, and gear just comes as a bonus.

Your ability to do those instances depends on how well you can actually tank, the ability of your healer, how much CC you have and how much hp you have.

You should technically be able to do the instance, however your low defense is going to make it hard if you get so unfortunate crits. I would suggest at least getting yourself 2 tanking trinkets, then doing the instances you want.

Heres what you do, you get a decent healer, 2 DPS/CC classes and 1 pure DPS, preferably from within your guild, if you feel confident... Get the healer to throw over heals like crazy and have the pure DPS pull an attacker off you, get aggro back on the mob then get the DPS to break a CC so your dealing with 1 extra mob. Then tell them to AoE to pull aggro off the mobs you paid less attention to then blow all your cooldowns. If you live and have 491 defense you can survive the first pulls in karazhan, goodluck.

are you talking about regular Arc and Mech? go for it... get a good group... go slow, dont rush... good healer...

heroics... hm... unless you got an UBER group... maybe not yet...

Revered with Cenarion Expedition has Strength of the Untamed, which is a better tanking necklace.

You'll lose a few points of stam, but add defense rating and dodge rating.

You can also have Bracers of the Green Fortress crafted for a few hundred gold to increase both defense and dodge.

Those 2 upgrades should get you over the 450 def mark and probably give you 1-2% more pure avoidance (dodge/parry). With that and a couple of people to CC you should be able to do Mech, Bot, and Arc with no problem.

Search for the questline that gets you the key to the Arcatraz because the belt reward from that Arc key quest is the best pre-Kara. The belt is the Sha'tari Vindicator's Waistguard.

I searched for you. The questline starts with this quest in Area 52.

You should be able to do normal mech, but it won't do you any good. You need gear from quests / Crafted / PvP wellfare epics.

If you have some spare time, go grind some honor for a few S1 pieces, my guess is they will up your stamina/armor greatly and make you uncrit-able through resiliance instead of defense for the time being.

Even the blue "honor" Reputation gear would be a upgrade in most cases.

Anyone can pretty much tank any normal 70 instance (not SH) without too much of a problem, just depends on your party. If they are all greens, i'd be a bit worried ^^

He's a tank, gear from PVP welfare epics, other than the Gladiator's Shield wall, would be a TERRIBLE idea.

There's an excellent breastplate that drops in normal Mech, even better than the Aldor revered one.

Arcatraz has a very good tanking ring.

You really need to do Shadow Lab til you get the tanking trinket off of Blackheart and find the quest that starts the chain that will get you Da'biri's Enigma, which is another good tanking trinket.

s1 shoulders are not a terrible idea. i've got badge tanking gear out the yingyang and i'm STILL using Fanblade Pauldrons coz either spite shoulders won't drop or a warrior is main-specced to tank gets the T4 shoulders ahead of me. in that respect, Gladiator's Plate Shoulders offer 24 more stamina and 200ish more armor and are a viable alternative.

Filling your last blue spots with PvP epics can attain more stamina / armor / critical hit reduction. So i daresay they are not terrible :O. AND they look awesome, and we all know WoW is a big epeen battle of looks.

If you're as good of a tank as you say, you'll be fine. I started heroics wearing no purples, with a lvl 65 shield (Shield of the Wayward Footman). I even think I had less armor than you when I started Kara.
