So, I was running heroic MrT last night. We had an excellent group through the whole instance, but something kept falling apart on Kael and we kept wiping. Eventually, two people have to leave and we find a couple replacements, both hunters. Composition is now a Paladin tank, Paladin healer, 2 Hunters and a Warlock, Kael is the only thing left to kill.

The fight starts as usual, the phoenix's die, one egg dies, we levitate. Everything is normal at this point, HP is looking good, MP looking good. I'm worried about the egg, the two hunters havn't picked it up, the healer is occupied. The Warlock and I bring it down before it spawns another bird though.

So with a pally healer, it only makes sense that everyone swims out into the hallway right inside of door, lots of room to move around and you stay in the healer's range. The hunters decide to swim behind kael, where no one has range on them, and die. The Warlock gets himself cornered while applying DoTs to Kael and dies. Kael is sitting at about 40% HP, with just a Paladin tank and healer remaining.

Levitate breaks, we mana tap -- I auto attack, he tops us off. We're in the air again after draining him about 1%. We swim out to the door, and flash of light eachother. The orbs come at us and we swim together to the left (Kael's right) and continue to FoL eachother.

This goes on for a few levitates. One of the hunters says "Just wipe.. you'll go OOM anyway.."

Warlock: "The healer gets mana back every time he crits, and both of them get mana back every time they heal eachother. As long as that lasts them between Arcane Torrents and pot timers, they'll do it!"

So we continue this bitter exchange for another 12 minutes or so. After he hit 20% health, I started throwing a hammer at him each time he rested. We managed to get our DPS up to about 4% every rest state. There were at least four or five times where I was on the verge of death, and our pot timers were up together just in time. His Lay on Hands went off cooldown during the fight, and I'm sure it saved us as well.

He's at 10%, the doubtful hunter says "OMG, they're going to do it! Pallies are so OP, but it's great!"

The fight continues in the same fashion. We keep moving together, and making sure to heal eachother. We only self heal when desperatly needed (no Spiritual Attunement on self-heals) We don't take a single hit from either of the orbs this whole time.. Just DoT damage. We're very careful to stay close to the ground so we dont take falling damage.

4% left, this levitate is about to break. Not enough mana for a hammer, so I charge at him while floating to get an extra couple swings in. Together we somehow drop him to 1% before the next levitate. A few hundred mana (not enough to heal through the DoT for the whole levitate) and a fair while left on my pot timer and Arcane Torrent. He's in the same situation. We have just enough mana for one Hammer of Wrath each so we wait for the orbs to come out into the hall, swim around them to our left and into range -- and unleash hell from a height that won't kill us if the levitate breaks.

The hammers fly from us and hit with that trademark giant golden star explosion that every Paladin has grown to love. Kael starts to scream and yell and get all whiney about how his demise means nothing. We hit the ground, triumphant, as the pally Duo stand over the corpse of the Lord of the Blood Elves. Cries of "Arcane Torrent is OP, Pallies are OP.. OMG Are you kidding me? You get mana back from healing eachother? That is so OP!" fill the air.

The healer says "You know how pallies are built to outlast their opponents in long drawn out fights? That doesn't only mean bubble-hearthing you know".

We ended up 8 mana pots lighter (each) than when we started that fight, and given that we weren't expecting such a struggle we weren't hitting them every cooldown at first. But our pots were on cooldown for 16 minutes during that fight, so that can give an idea of how long it was in total.

Classes I've soloed the last half of Kael with or watched do it:

Priest
Paladin
Warlock
Shaman
Druid

What do they all have in common? They have the ability to heal themselves faster than Kael can do damage. The one that had the most trouble was the enhancement Shaman, but given that it only took him 2 levitate cycles, he did alright. If you play smart though (seal/judgment/blessing of wisdom) any pally can solo the 2nd half. Feral druids apparently stack up a couple life blooms on themselves before the phase, etc.

Also, I know you were in heroic, but if you ever do non-heroic rep runs, it used to be possible for people to run back into the instance and when he shoots you into the air again he'll teleport them from the beginning all the way to him. Once was tanking it and had the full party keep corpse dragging back and dying to the stupid orbs. This was the 2nd day the instance was out, though, so it may have been a bug.

Yeah after he reaches the levitate phase he's easy. The only reason people die is because they do not pay attention. I have solo'd it from 50% down (lock) and same with our guilds druid whos single HoT outhealed the levitate DoT. He was full mana the entire fight, it was hilarious cause it took him like 30 minutes.

Congrats on the pally pwnage though.

Since this post I've done this/something similar repeatedly.. Usually I whisper the healer before the fight to stick with me the whole time and if one of the DPSers does something stupid not to waste time on them.

I find this fight EASIER to handle with 2-3 people living now actually, as long as you stick together. It may take some time, but there's no threat of death. He really is lawlstrider.
