So last night in Kara, Big Bad Wolf dropped his paw, as a DW Fury Warrior I rolled it and won. I already had equipped Blinkstrike w/ goose in my MH, and Latro's shifting sword (the fast off-hand) in my off-hand. When I went to equip the wolf paw, since it is a main hand, it obviously went there, and my Blinkstrike went to my off-hand. My problem is, when I equiped paw/blink, my damage went down, as did my AP, as did my crit %. I can't really figure out why because the Paw has much better stats than Latro's. The only thing I can take from this is that the calculations are being made with the Paw being classified as "unarmed" being that it is a fist wep. I'm just really confused and I'm sure this post is very confusing. The basic question is: Why did my stats go down with the better weapon combo? And, would I be better off not using the paw and just staying with my current combo?

Your unarmed combat skill is probably extremely low therefore your stats will be lower when that weapon is equipped. That's probably the only reason for that happening.

Deductive reasoning lead me to that because the BBWP has 20 Crit Rating so ur crit should increase a little instead of drop. Your DMG should increase as both DPS are in the 80's vice 71 and both top ends are higher. SOOO...you need to get ur Unarmed skill up...just run a few lowbie instances to get it up and you should be fine..

Press K to see where you are at ur wep skillz.

Does intel really speed up your weapon skill leveling? I've heard that from different people but I have my doubts...

Intellect used to increase the rate that you would improve weapon skill. So it used to be worth it for every class to throw on some Int gear or use an Int scroll/pot when training up a weapon.

As far as I know this was changed a while back. Int doesn't provide this perk anymore.

no, not misinformed... it used to help and saving time on leveling skill on a weapon was not useless...

but as of 2.4, it seems that it has changed and hence it does not affect the rate in which we learn a specific weapon skill...

hmm... i guess it's time to sell my Smartass gear...

quote from Wiki...
Quote:
Intellect (often abbreviated INT) has the following effects:

Used to increase the rate at which weapon skills were learned, as of 2.4, this is no longer the case.

* Increases mana points. Each point of intellect gives 15 mana points (except from the first 20 points of Intellect that provide 1 mana for each point instead).
* Increases chance to score a spell critical strike. This increase varies by class and level; in general, the relationship is linear as intellect increases, with a small amount of base crit chance. The rate of increase is generally based on the amount of intellect a class is expected to have at a certain level, given by the following table.[4][5]
* As of 2.4, Intellect will increase the amount of MP5 generated by Spirit.

You mean those mobs SURROUNDED BY CONSTANTLY, INCREDIBLY RAPIDLY SPAWNING ELEMENTALS?

Yeah, real good idea. I took this advice once. Came back to a dead toon... about 3 minutes later. I gained 1 skill point before dying.

Also, AFAIK, intellect has nothing to do with gaining weapon levels these days.

If you wanna level weapons, just equip fast versions of the weapons you want to level and go to town on mobs 10 levels beneath you until about 325 / 350 and then go run some instances.

Best mob to level weapon skills on is the servant of allistarj in blasted lands. He can't die unless you're doing the quest to make him die, and he's... level 56ish... so he hits like a wet noodle.

Do you want to know the real reason why you're doing less DPS with Big Bad Wolf's Paw?

I'll tell you.

If you look closely at the graphic of the BBWP, you'll notice that it looks nothing like a weapon at all. Rather it resembles an oven mitt. It is the "Big Bad Oven Mitt" (BBOM) if you will. Now, if you're swatting at something with an oven mitt on your hand, you honestly can't expect to do much damage.

The +17 Agility, +18 Stamina, and the +20 Critical Strike rating WOULD effect their advertised stats IF the BBWP was a weapon. But, because it is the BBOM, they ACTUALLY figure into +Fire Resistance. Currently this item has a hidden +Fire Resistance of ~78, making it the best "weapon" to equip in the game for fire damage intensive fights. Hold on to it, you'll find it handy in fights such as Al'ar.

Regarding INT not helping with weapon skill-ups ... I would like to see some text specifically stating that it does NOT help. I've seen lots of text saying it DOES ... and I have some anecdotal experience.

Having recently acquired my off hand fist from Quel'Danas, I decided I need to up my unarmed skill ... it was sitting at 250, and wasn't doing me any good.

So off to Blasted Lands to the "Immortal guys", unequipped my weapons and started beating on him ... unarmed skill climbed quicklyfrom 250 to around 290, then it started slowing down, until from around 300 - 310, I was getting a skill point every minute ... eventually, it "Stopped" at 310 (well, at least it was 5 mins at 310 with no skillup).

So, off to the AH, bought a whole bunch of int gear ... boosted int to around 300 ... went back ... and what do you know ... immediate skill-ups. Within 10 minutes, I was at 350.

Then I quickly equipped my 2 hand sword, which hadn't skilled up from 345 for a looong time. Granted, I don't use it a lot, but I do go into BGs about twice a week, and I use it then. 5 Mins later, I had the 5 points to 350.

Now, in my opinion, and from my experience, INT definitely does help with weapon skillups ... I would still be sitting at 310 unarmed if not for that int gear.
