Level 65 weaponFollow

I think my hunter alt needs a new weapon. I am still using http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=28062;source=live

I have had zero luck with instance drops. I wasn't able to get my hands on the gun from BF...the crossbow from SP...and I am betting that the bow from Mana will also elude me. To top it all off finding groups for these runs is getting harder and harder as more people seem to be focusing on MGT or raids.

I could hold out for http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=25639;source=live

but then again I could buy http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=31204;source=live

Money isn't really an issue these days. But I have the following questions:

1) I'm still perfecting my shot rotations. I've read that the Elekk gun's speed can make rotations a little tougher. I still suck at threading in shots and need the forgiveness slower weapons provide. Will this be a major issue if I get the Elekk gun?

2) I can get the Gunblade NOW...I will have to run the quest line for the Elekk gun and won't have the benefit of a weapon upgrade during this time. Is an upgrade worth it?

3) Being a dwarf I prefer guns...but am willing to use whatever. I'm just not seeing much out there except for instance drops, which I can't seem to get. Is there any better weapon out there I am missing for my level? I'm not much of a PvP'er...but am willing to do whatever for an upgrade that will get me to 70.

4) I've reached a point where I'm beginning to pull agrro off my pet with very little effort. I am having to give my pet a little more time to toss in an extra growl or kite the mob if I have room. I'm assuming a jump in my weapons dps will make this even more of an issue?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I got a Gunblade mailed to me for free from some random person at 60. I just dinged 65 on my current hunter, and I'm not using it because:

1) I spent 100g on the 20 slot quiver, and I don't want to buy an ammo pouch.

2) My gun skill is at ~250, and I don't want to waste the ammo/time that will take away from my leveling speed.

I might get slapped for this but I think my life will go on.

I don't see shot rotation being that important enough in the pre-70 instances to worry about your weapon speed at level 65. I guess for practicing purposes it would be better to start the shot rotation thing now but in the end, isnt it just a macro that people spam?

Doing a good job on instance runs is what gets you noticed and invited back. Setting up macros so those tasks are performed more efficiently is part of doing that good job. Those efficiencies will also help you level quicker.

I haven't switched over to the macro yet. I'm using a shot/hunter timer at the moment...which I wish I would have installed ages ago. Since I am inexperienced with shot rotations I want to learn how to do it manually before letting the macro take over.

The inclusion of Steady Shot (and the elimination of Aimed Shot) from my rotation seems to have increased my dps quite a bit. Which has the drawback of making my pet less effective at holding aggro. So I'm also becoming a better trapper and kiter :-)

Anyone have any opinions on my weapon issue?

Weapon speed is amongst the most important considerations since it defines shot rotation. If your hunter is beastmastery, you'll want a 2.7 to 2.9 speed weapon for that 1:1 rotation. Go get Cheeky's spreadsheet to allow factoring in all the variables and help you decide. I don't have the math in my head to do the number crunching like some on this board.

Once you get 68 you can get this off Mechancal guy in Steam Vaults.

Let's all get something straight right now. The reason so many hunters think that 2.7 is the "holy grail" of weapon speeds, is because the fastest level 70 Epic in the game is the Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle (and the one from the world boss in SMV). Depending on latency, BM hunters can EASILY go down to 2.4-2.5 weapon speeds- even with a tiny bit of haste rating. BM hunters try to get their Autoshot speed as close to 1.5 as they can (Steady Shot cast time).

That in mind, it's really easy to do PvP in Hellfire for a few minutes and get the marks for Splintermark which works beautifully with a 1:1 macro. The horde version is called the same thing, but it's from the Horde field scout in Zangar.
