Shard Bags-Worth using?Follow

In my guild there is this other Warlock that decently outgears me but I stil lbeat him in DPS. He is also very annoying. He was madle class leader some wierd reason and the power has gone to his empty head. After he completley messed up Curse assignments (use to by me job) he asked me how many shards I had. I told him that I only had 4 and that I understood that isn't enought but I'm good about getting more in raids. He told me that he had 30. He then started asking me if I had a shard bag. I told him I didn't and he called me a noob and that I failed at life etc.

So, is a shard bag really worth it? I mean is 22 shard only slots worth giving up 18 anything slots? I personally think that 30 shards is also way to much. I try to keep 5 on me when im solo, 10 in 5-mans and 15-20 in raids. Does this guy know what he's talking about or is he just using shard bags simply because they exist?

P.S. We were in SSC.

P.S.S He is the Leo tank. I can't wait until he fails hard.

UR Noob & Phail@lyfe!!! JK ;)

Personal preference really. I use one. I like to have Ebon Shadowbag full up so I don't have to worry about using Drain Soul when I don't need to. It's especially useful when you're PvPing, and doing instances when you don't want to have to worry about running out of Soul Shards and remembering to Drain Soul before you run out. I guess it also depends on what spec you are, and/or if you use a lot of Soul Shards.

i find them worth using. ebon shadowbag holds 28. i usually try to top mine off before starting a raid. I get antsy when my shard count falls to 10 during a raid.

that's just how i roll, yo.

I also carry a full Ebon Shadowbag regardless of circumstance - It is just another thing that you don't have to worry about when you get into a raid, instance, BG, etc. However, I do strongly feel that having a shard bag depends on your current bag capacity, personal farming habits, vendor access, raid make-up, etc.

For your specific situation (all 18-slot bags and another warlock in the raid), I think you would get a very minute benefit if you obtain a dedicated shard bag - As you probably know, progression nights/5-man PUG's can be tough on healthstones but having another lock in your raid to share that burden with definitely lessens the need to carry an excessive amount of shards. In the end, if you are comfortable with your system and it is not causing a negative impact on the raid - should it really matter?

I love my 28 slot shard bag, I try to keep it stocked all the time (when I'm low, I just hit up AV and follow the zerg around, farming shards off of them and then /afking out if it's going to be a long match). Come out of it with 400 easy honor, 2-3 healthstones and some biscuts. It's a pretty sweet deal =D

But yeah.. it's not a necessity. Take solace in the fact that you out-perform him in raids, and ignore him otherwise. If anything, take his spot as class lead >:D

WoW is a game. Use a shard bag if you want to. Everyone plays differently and you may not need a full shard bag for what you do.

Personally, I find having a shard bag is helpful on keeping track of shards, so I use one.

I find it funny that he said you failed at life, just for playing how you want to play.

How many empty or "anything" bag slots do you need? Running instances/raids/solo do you really fill up all those slots, that using a shard bag would slow you down? I don't often fill all my bag slots, when doing runs. I tend to travel to cities, between major things I'll be doing, so I can sell things or put stuff into my bank.

I don't bother with a shard bag. I normally only carry up to 15 or so shards on me at a time. It doesn't make sense to essentially lose 3 bag slots just so I can keep the shards all in 1 bag.

If you use a lot of shards when playing, use a shard bag.

If you don't use many shards, then I see no reason to have the shard bag on you. I'd keep one in the bank anyway though, for long instances/raids, so you're able to stock up on them, before the run.

To be honest, if you get a decent bag add on (can't remember what mine is called) then that will separate everything out into common object types anyway. The only downside is mine does it across bags, instead of tying similar object types to one bag. There's probably one out there that does it better though.

I carry a shard bag at the moment, but am seriously thinking of replacing it with an Imbued Netherweave as I constantly seem to be full.

Then again, I carry a ton of food around with me for NO reason, so go figure!

I;ve been lazy, and havn't gotten the 28 slot shard bag, so I still have the 24, but I try to keep it topped of at all times. I can easily go though 24 shard in one night of raiding, and prefer to not gimp my DPS by getting shards mid raid. Just me though.

But you can carry 24 shards anyway - the shard bag just groups em.

I am wondering what the point of it is now...

Unless you're a pack-rat, you wouldn't need a shard bag. I'm a pack rat so I have my ebon bag (on my lock) and another one in the bank in case I'm low and need a refill before BG/raid. Other than that, it's nothing more than organizer - which someone already stated, you can get an add-on for with your normal bags. My comments also include the other types of "organizing" bags.

I'm one of those organizational freaks who like to have all my stuff together...ie Like with like. I have a shard bag for shards, one for food, drinks, buff stuff, an herb bag for herbs, one bag for quest items, and the backpack for junk. Just me though.

The Ebon bag to me just seems like a waste of good Shadowcloth (admittedly I'm just starting to get the mats for the Frozen Shadoweave set so the stuff is like golddust to me right now) but I keep the 20-slotter.

Reason being is, I accumulate crap at an alarming rate and forget to vendor it often. I've lost count of the times I've been unable to create a Soulstone or Healthstone due to having an inventory full of crap. Having dedicated shard space stops me from filling up.

So for me personally, a shard bag is worth using, but it's really a personal call. It certainly doesnt make anyone who doesnt use one a noob.
#15REDACTED, Posted: May 01 2008 at 9:48 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i also use a nice soul bag, but my other bags are bad as Hell organised. do tell us when he fails ;)

In theory sure. In practice? My bags fill up far too fast. It forces you to use soul shards, otherwise why replace the bag?

Haven't used shard bags since they were implemented. I prefer the extra space for phat lewt. Maybe if they add some kind of bonus to them, like the Hunters' quivers/pouches.

Maybe then.

If you raid alot and your raid is prone to wipes, or you are entering new content a shardbag is great, i use it all the time and love it.

I love them, you may not. I've always used one (right now I am using the Ebon), although there were MANY times I would regret it. Id be grinding, I hate to throw out trinkets (they just seem so fun), picking up everything that drops off of mobs, and holding seperate sets of gear, all of this would fill up my 3 20 slot bags extremely fast. My bank was extremely hectic as well. All this crap that I should be selling. My mats that I DE'd would be overflowing cause I was too lazy to sell them.

But in the past few weeks, ive organzed my bank well. Sent a lot to a bank alt, sold stuff on AH, and donated stuff to the GB. Now with the extra room in my bank and not holding all of this excess crap, it is pretty hard for me to fill up my bag space even with a shard bag, and if I decide to farm, the bag is easily dropped off at the bank to replace with another bag. With the new dailies in place, you really should'nt be having crazy money problems where you can not afford one (I respec at least 5 times a week and still have more than enough gold).

You will find the shard bag usefull especially now that you can summon inside of instances (heavy toll on 25 man's for repairs or horde at summoning stone). If you spec destro as well, the constant summoning of a new pet to sac can diminish your shards quickly.

I find that I use my shard bag like no other bag. I get worries if I only have 15 shards left (ebon bag). I am demon speced but I have shadowburn and that requires a shard each time u use. I find that in a long fight, I can use up to 4 shards (soul stone, heal stone, shadowburn, shadowburn; although the last shadowburn usually replaces another stone).

If you ever create soul portals or summon members regularly, you will appreciate the extra space.

Really, it is personal preference but I know I couldn't live without my shard bag.

How often do you shadowburn a mob more than once? Shadowburn should essentially be coming up as free every time. If it's not, you're doing it wrong. Also, how hard is it to drop rank 1 drain soul on a mob as it dies (recovering a shard from a missed Shadowburn)?

very hard if the mobs are to low to get a shard off, or if you're doing lots of boss tries with no trash to get shards off. including new pet, HS well and SS every 30min and your shards will run out fast :P

Maybe it's because I don't raid. In 5-mans and Battlegrounds, shards are always nearby. All you need to do is slap Drain Soul (Rank 1) on a dying enemy. Voilà, one shard to spend on whatever. I usually only have enough spare shards for a pet/player summoning and the two stones.

I'm guessing they're not as easy to come by in raids, though.

I usually only shadowburn once, yes. But if you want to zerg an npc or the opposing faction, why not? It is a nice increase in dps and instant cast (after cooldown mind you). Personally, it has saved me tonnes when I am pvping or during a bad pull.

Other than the 1 time I did 4 hours of Archimonde attempts, I've never been in a raid where shards weren't plentiful enough. More than 20 is just clutter, imo. Then again, less than 10 is just being unprepared in a raid. Happy medium ftw.
