Speccing a nub-lockFollow

Hey first lock post...main is my rogue. I've been slowly (read: 5 months) leveling my lock. She's at 36 right now, and I've really just been tossing talent points into whatever looked decent. My gear is pretty much AH based, as money isn't really an issue.

I've read most of the first two or three pages on spec and playstyles, but wouldn't mind a little friendly advice. Right now questing is pretty easy, mobs 2 lvls higher aren't an issue, and my rotation is pretty much what everyone else posted. Maybe I don't need to change much?

Thanks,
Mag

The only thing I'd recommend is to stick to putting talent points into Affliction until you get UA. Don't worry too much about gear, just get +shadow and +damage gear as you can, but what you have works fine for now.

Thanks - I've stacked as much +dmg as I can, which isn't much. Do I take Shadow over +dmg? And I've stacked +int as much as possible, assuming that's similar to +agi on rogues.

For some reason the armory is giving me no love. Oh well.

well lets see: no need for improved Sbolt, move those points into demonic embrace, otherwise its all ok.

as a lock higher level mobs arent a problem, especiaLly if youre demo. i ahve a friend wich kills lv?? taregts, higher than him lv elites etc. i have screenies :))

Your spec is really entirely dependant on your play style. Do you Drain Hunt or Drain Tank, or some other style. That will determine what talents you need to do well.

Also, stacking +Int is not like Agi for Rogues. Our Agi is Sta, since HP translates directly into a larger mana pool through Life Tap.

The same can be said of Affliction, never underestimate a Drain Tanker. I could Drain Tank elite mobs 3-5 levels above me with no problem. Demo does it well too, but Affliction does it just as well.

Forgive me for hi-jacking this thread. I just hate starting new ones when the subject is being discussed.

I just wanna know if I'm on the right track. I don't have a lot of stamina gear, because all of the "of the Eagle" gear on my server immediately gets bought up by a price gouger, and put back up for 40g or more, and I rarely have the time to run any instances.

I started out doing the hunterlock thing, but I recently got dark pact, and started to drain tank with my imp out. For the most part, I can go non-stop if I take 1 equal-level (or up to 2 levels above) mob at a time, but if I try to take on 2 or more, I start running out of mana pretty quick, and my poor little Gobbis just can't keep up. I also don't really like doing life-tap because I'm on a PvP server. I try to avoid doing it unless I know I have time to bandage up right away.

My spell rotation is UA, CoA, Siphon Life, Corruption, and then I start to drain life. I'll use Shadow Bolt if I get a nightfall proc, but I don't even bother with immolate because it just seems superfluous now that I have UA. Should I try to throw an immolate in there, or am I already using too many DoTs as it is? I'm trying to conserve my mana as much as possible.

In regards to talents, to both of those who linked their armories, is that there are a few things which should be moved.
Talents into Affliction! Feel free to move the talents from suppression into nightfall if that suites your fancy, but that is otherwise the best draintank spec at level 50. After that you can go to a LOT of places for talents in all three trees. To the OP, for spell rotation you can do Immolate>SL>CoA>Corruption while running after you cast immolate. After your dots are up you can throw in a quick damage spell or go strait to drain life, depending on what mob you're fighting.

To Midnight, you do not have to use immolate once you have UA unless you take a while to down these mobs. While i level my warlock (level 54) i always tap down to about a 1k health deficit, because that is the general amount i heal on most of the mobs i grind (I'm on a pvp server too). You should tap down a bit and get a feel for about how much you usually heal in a fight and then continuously tap down to that number, then use dark pact to get the rest up. Doing this will prevent you from "over generating" mana, since over healing won't do much. If ganking is a real problem for you, you can try to find other grinding areas, but if that doesn't pan out you can start carrying around your succubus instead of your imp. It may cost you 200 hp or so, but it helps you kill mobs faster and can seduce potential gankers (just make sure to turn off all her auto abilities except invis).

Note: While leveling, as mentioned above, any style works for leveling. Just use whatever you enjoy most. I'm only posting based on first-hand experiences with my lock and info from posts elsewhere. From that data i simply found these as some of the better methods of leveling/grinding up through the levels. Also, any talent tree provides a viable leveling spec around outland levels.

speccing a warlock is a very simple task. One thing depends on how you want to play the game. If ur a guy that like pumping shadowbolts into a creep, go destruction (recommended only for undead or large mana pool warlocks. If ur a guy who likes watching creeps suffer slowly, go affliction. If ur a guy who likes demons to do the job for you, go demonology.
For grinding, you need to be sure on what spells to cast and when to lifetap and drain life (Drain life is extremely helpful for going through long periods of time w/o eating/drinking/canabalizing). Count how long it takes the monster to die from you DoT (affliction) or how many shadowbolts/searing pains it takes to kill a monster. A very helpful addon is MOBINFO2 which displays the health of the monster/player targetted. If possible, choose a place to grind where there are enough monsters to continuously grind w/o having to stop.
Spells: I have made many mistakes with grinding/lvling, and only when i hit 70 did i realize what spells are important.
if you have shadow dmg, dont bother casting anything but shadow spells (immolate). Likewise, if your destruction fire=fire spells, shadow=shadow spells. One curse that is really helpful is Curse of Shadows/Curse of Elements. If you go affliction, dont bother with curse of agony (too slow). Curse of Shadows buffs your shadow spells, so lets say you place a Corruption, Siphon life, UA, and CoS. Corruption, Siphon, UA, and Drain life all get (8%@44 10%@56 and Malediction +3% and reduces resistance to shadow so no worrying about spells resisted). Demonology it doesnt really matter which spells you cast, but if you drain tank, i strongly recommend using CoS for more health. Health funnel when demon is bellow 50%. Keep a good eye on your demons health and your health so that you don't end up in a situation where your both low on health.
For stats. Destro: intellect, stamina, and fire/shadow dmg. Affliction: stamina, shadow dmg. Demo: intellect, stamina.

I have assembled 3 trees for every specc. Hopefully they will help.

In my opinion, Demonology is the best for lvling. I used demo 1-70 and never had any problems. Destruction is not recommended, but if your bored, you can always try new things.
One last thing, on one of the warlock quests, absolutely go for the trinket: Abyss Shard (over Soul Harvester or Robes). Robes and weapon and easily be replaced, but the trinket stays forever. No need for shard or mana for your voidwalker.
