...Thought you people might too.

I am by no means a master at WoW, or even good for that matter, but I come here to learn and bounce ideas off everyone. With that said here is the tale.

When I was early lvl 30's I was questing in Wetlands/ Dun Modr when I get a group invite from another hunter (mid 30's) telling me he "will help me level". I haven't at this point grouped much, so I accept invite. He runs me around Arathi for a while just grinding mid 30 mobs. All goes fine, but I wasn't getting much exp. I had to leave after an hour or so. For the next week or so everytime I come on he invites me to group, I decline as I would rather solo to get more exp. I did put him on friend list and see that I am gaining on him in levels over the next few weeks and eventually pass him, hitting 39 while he is still at 37. I proceed to take a break from my main as I start an alt to herb/ mine to get gold for a mount at 40.

Now I am a fresh 40 with a mount and am questing out of Booty Bay in STV and he comes running by me and is level 40 too. He group invites me again and I accept, just for the hell of it. He proceeds to take me to kill the lvl 43+ naga around the area. As I am watching his style and the combat I notice that I seem to be doing more damage and my cat is out aggroing his bear with ease. I inspect him, out of curiosity and this is what I see.. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Zangarmarsh&n=Vaughan

I think "huh, that's odd for a hunter." I'm still in leather but all +agi/ stam. Oh well, I guess he really wanted mail, we press on. I notice that he sets the loot to: free for all and as the mobs are close to death he runs toward them and grabs the loot as soon as I finish them off, no biggie as nothing of it is worth while. I catch on to his game and proceed to do the same thing. I end up getting some "of the owl" bracers, immediately after he says "see ya" and breaks group. I think he got pissed at me ninjaing the loot.

I'm not the kind of person to poke fun at others' ignorance, but thought I'd share this. One thing I can say is that I'm glad I found Allakhazam.

He's a spirit hunter, didn't you get the notice? All the good hunters stack spirit now.

this is a great site indeed. When I hit 40 I ran to the AH to look for some nice mail pieces, then when I saw that all the 'good' mail pieces for hunters (agility/stamina-agility/int) were 40+ gold a piece I immediately ran here and asked if it was ok to keep leather for a while.

I can't believe people have never heard of this site (or others like it). Just by doing a little bit of research you can become so much better.

*snarky on* There's a reason they're called huntards... *snarky off*

I hope you suggested that he do a little research before he gets too much farther along. This site has been a godsend to me - there's no way I would figure out even a tenth of what I've learned just by browsing the boards. There is some excellent information to be had here, all you have to do is spend a little time reading.

This guy is where I was back in the 20's level. I did not have a good understanding of the class or the game mechanics. I had 'tiger' stuff and misread what added damage and had conflicting information from others as to what made a good hunter.

It took me though my 30's to get my gear somewhat straightend out and it wasn't until the scorpid mail sets did I even start to get a clue as to how to equip my hunter.

So the best advice I could give would be to point anyone in this shape to a place like Alla or TKA. You could even link the FAQ.

I'm so happy that when I started playing, it was because someone who had been playing since Beta got me into it. I was told right away that "of the monkey" stuff was the way to go.

And holy guacamole. That guy has more spirit and strength than I do, and he's 30 levels below me.

I'm happy to see that he is Alliance. :)

He needs some tips, but if at 41st he's still in all greens, and poor greens at that, and is running FFA so he can try to ninja, he is probably not worth assisting.

Some of my friends won't spend a Bronze on their alts..No AH for them and they still can lvl pretty good with a hunter, even a spirit one.
Tell you the truth, after your 4th hunter alts you don't really gives a crap what he looks while leveling. Some save for bigger expense like epic mount and get serious only when they hit Outland.

While I can sympathize with that feeling, it doesn't match my experience. My alts had the best gear not the worst, as they leveled. My main has plenty of gold and could fund their gear. He'd send the better drops for each alt to that alt and bank it until the alt got high enough to use it. I never had any problems with gold on alts. Hell, even my alt I started on a different server had far more money than my first toon. I knew how to work the auction house.

If your server is forgiving enough to fund your alts, I'm jealous. I've been keeping an eye out on the AH for level 50ish "of the Eagle" gear for my warlock, since she's still in a bunch of mid-30 green gear. But the AH is freaking brutal on my server. There's on jerk who searches "eagle" in cloth gear "monkey" in leather and mail gear, and probably does it for plate, too. He'll buy it all out and put it back up for 40g.

I'm sorry. Even though I can make several hundred dollars a day doing dailies on my hunter, I am NOT paying 40g for green items that shouldn't be selling for any more than 5g each.

edit: but that doesn't really give me an excuse to throw "whale" and "owl" on my warlock- much less put spirit on a hunter.

No insult intended here...but why would anyone have 4 hunters?

One? I think everyone should have a hunter.
Two? Ok...you really like the class and want a different race/faction/spec/etc.
Three? You LOVE hunters and want one of each spec I guess.
Four? Why?

I'm always curious when I see people talking about having more than 1-2 hunter alts. I'm not knocking it or anything...just don't understand. If you are one of these folks, do you roll the other classes too? or just stick with hunters?

I don't think this was intentional (all spirit) on his part. My guess is that when he hit 40, he blew all his $$ just to get mail gear and this is what he could afford. He didn't have a mount yet, which is his perogative.

Now I feel kind of bad that I didn't give him some pointers. He obviously needed them as while we were fighting single mobs, he was opening up with volley, arcanes and concussive before his pet could establish aggro. Then again, I didn't want to come across as some elitist.

If I meet up with him again I'll just send him here.

While leveling up my druid, I ran across a lot of hunters I knew were hurting for some guidance. Melee was the most obvious sign, but I was amazed at how many newbie hunters I could spot in town or running down the road because they were wearing dresses :P.

I always opened up the conversation with "Hey, been playing long?" 9 times out of 10 the answer was no, so I'd ask if they minded some pointers. Gave them basic stat/spec/aggro advice and send them on their way. The ones who were really nice about it, I gave them my hunter's name. Now, every once in a while I find myself teaching chain-trap classes or helping to find new pets. And as soon as the little munchkins hit 70, I send them to Aethien's list.

It gives me that glowy proud feeling when one of them whispers me very excitedly that they've just been accepted into a Kara guild :).

You forgot NOSTALGIA!
The Barrens, WC, Westfall,Loch Modan....beautiful places.

Also i did some powerleveling on alts and my LAST concern was the gear. Give me a good bow and i can lvl a hunter naked. I don't judge a book by is cover, at least until Outland.

Well, I can't condem a Hunter for melee in the right situation.

I ended up in a full blown melee situation twice last night in Shattered Halls. Our tank was running high lag and couldn't hold aggro to save his life. That meant that yours truly was the hot topic of the day and several times I blew through all my CC removal tools and scatter, etc., only to be surrounded by 3-4 70 elite foes. It was not fun and there was NO way to get to range. I understand the need for melee at times. (Get tired of Wingclip, Wingclip, Wingclip... run.. ack! Stunned, blah blah.)

So, while I'd question a hunter STARTING a fight with melee, or doing melee for any length of time against a single foe (unless for fun- which I do from time to time just to practice). Melee is part of our ******** just not something we focus on.

In any event, send them here to Allakhazam. Give them a fighting chance. I wish I had it back when I was level 10-20...

Meet calabar, I think he has 4 hunters just in the 60+ part of the game.

If you enjoy playing hunters, and enjoy leveling more than other things then yes, it makes sense.

I started a second hunter, and its original intention was to have a BM hunter while my main was MM. Well... I kinda dropped that idea when I finally gave in and respecc'ed BM on my main. Now my alt hunter only exists to male jewelry for my lowbie alts, and hold all of my excess ore.

I've also heard of people making hunters with the specific intent of being a gathering mule. Hunters are easy to level, have traps and pets to keep mobs busy while you're on a node. Makes them really good skinning/Mining/Herbalist alts.

Somehow I think this thread has taken a turn... as far as the op is concerned... good for you for being a good sport and being patient with said douche-nozzle. That other hunter appearently doesn't know weather to wind his butt or scratch his watch... Maybe he will figure it out one day, maybe he will find some one to guide him maybe some one will send him here and all will be revealed... (One can hope.)

Keep on doing what your doing. Have fun, keep an open mind and allways work on your skills. Gear will come and go pretty quickly as you level. As you mentioned, that other hunter probably hit 40 and dumped gold on mail wear like a nub thinking it would just make him tougher. Bad idea. /slap the scrub and go about your way.

As far as some of the other posts... 4 hunters is just rediculous imo... 2 at most ( 1 each action) and even thats a streatch... but to each his or her own.

Melee hunters; again, although melee does happen at times... especially in tight, mob infested situations like the ones SH put you in ... this is not the primary function of a hunter however.

First off. NOT BASHING FORUM. great forum, love it. just dont trust it :P

ill explain quickly. first toon was a mage and lvled with the right gear blah blah BUT! the mage forum has "the greatest mage post ever" which, IN ITS DAY, was correct in everywhich way. lvled to 70, made some gear, went straight to T5 content and was asked by a guildie (at the time, he became the mage class leader) what spec. "raid spec" "did you research a newer forum than alla?" fire spec not raid spec. interesting. gathered info and he was right. arcane/frost. happy day im in top ten dps. blah blah blah not mage forum.

just saying that maybe some ppl DO research but got the wrong info. it happens. best advice for any wow players that want to improve. 1) research 2)ask questions 3) dont trust 1 and 2, make your own educated conclusions.

again, great forums and i thank you all lots. even the flamers. you get a smile once in awhile

Alpha,

You are definitely a very friendly and casual player, great to have you as part of the Hunter community.

In terms of the person you dealt with, well, "huntard" didn't come from nothing. :P

I see that he is stacking Stam/Intellect/Spirit as well as resistance, which are definitely not the stats to stack for leveling.
As you mentioned, Agi/AP are the stats for Hunter, also Stam is good while leveling. Intellect is needed at 70 for arena at raids, but not at this level.

In the end, gear doesn't really matter when it comes to leveling. I have never bought a piece of gear from the Auction House while leveling and I did fine without it.
I had some level 20-30 gear when I was in the 50s since I mostly quested for the fastest leveling path. It doesn't really matter how good your gear is while leveling
as long as you're not constantly dying to mobs around your level for quests.

In response to the previous posts about having multiple hunters, it's up to the person really. I can see people loving the class and making multiple alts. I personally
just have 1 hunter because I just pay the gold for respecs if I want to go MM or BM or SV. To the idea that people have hunters as farming mules, that's correct. Hunters
are great at soloing mobs, often can tag 5-6 mobs at once when farming against competition, and little downtime between fights. Also with hunters' trackings it's even
easier to hunt down mobs.

Good luck hunting,

-Og

In the past and even recently i have with hunter alts had cloth dresses +int gear you name it on them , all that matters is the best long range weapon you can afford .

My very first hunter had no use of talents until it was around level 40 either and even then it was a real weird mix , i then spent ages getting leather working up to mail as i had so little gold i could not afford even a few gold for one item , that has changed now though as i have learnt to play the auction house , and that is on 4 different servers of which i have found the stuff i want is always a very high price , and as others have said i also will not pay Twinked prices for armour that will get changed pretty fast.

All that matters in the end is that one day he will learn ( hopefully ) how to play at end game , i still dislike instances as i found in most cases someone will always ninja stuff or will rush in all guns blazing , so even though my armour is still not the best at least i can go questing to most outside areas in outland and survive.

Without a few friends helping me learn what is best and of course here and Petopia i would still be where "he" ? is now.

And as i have many alts i will explain why it can be a fun idea .

1. different races have different ways to get out of trouble , dwarf stoneform or the Tauren stomp for example , each can be fun to use and the only way to find out is to try each race.

2. I now have all professions except a Blacksmith , each has its use for a hunter as many will agree , and each can help level a hunter , my favourite at the moment has to be engineering making guns and bullets as and when needed has to be a big plus.

I am still learning new things and my guess is when the new play upgrade finally goes live i can see already we will all have to relearn a few things that come with it.
