Is Tailoring worth the effort ?Follow

having rolled a Mage now almost level 27 and seen how little decent gear seems to be on the Auction House or is very high priced i was wondering if it was worth getting into it ?

i have an undead priest that does have tailoring though but my Mage has enchanting and i know how the two can work well together , and i prefer Mage over Priest now.

I am not an instance player as they take to much time and the rare times i have grouped with unknowns has put me completely off , so the chances of me getting the best gear at endgame are slim..

I was thinking of using my Priest as the tailor but there are some nice pieces that are Bop so ? is it worth my Mage becoming my main tailor ?

If you want to be well geared for pve at 70, tailoring is a huge head start, you won't replace the spellfire/spellstrike till you hit t5+ 25 man raid content, which is pretty far along.

If you intend on doing mostly at 70, pick up tailoring. If you're more of a pvper, you won't be using the sets at all.

Tailoring is a pretty easy profession to pick up at 70 though, since you'll be able to solo low level instances for cloth, and the higher level cloth you can't solo as fast isn't very expensive.

So I'd recommend making money with a gathering profession first, then picking up tailoring at 70 if you're interested in pvp. It's not worth the effort while leveling though in my opinion.

You will not make much that you can use while leveling. The crafting professions are all designed so that at, say, lvl 20 you are making items useful for a lvl 10, and so on. (I believe the rule for when your crafting becomes useful is when lvl*5 = skill level.) And if you're starting at 27 you will have to spend a ton of gold to catch up. Good mage drops and quest rewards will come, dont worry too much abt your gear as you lvl. Unless, of course, you're rolling in gold. Then it could be worth it to powerlevel tailoring early on a mage.

Thanks , I was not that sure about Mage armour but i have a NE Priest level 39 that can make stuff to high for her so i guess my Mage will become a Tailor , Luckily the server i am on Horde side is crazy at auctions , They give me all the enchanting materials i could ever need at low level plus i sell almost everything i buy still cheaply and make a great profit = level 26=spent around 50g and still have about 200g.

i like farming anyway and of course the Mage classes are almost as good as hunters at low level , and at high level well ? i will soon find out.

its great for helping get you geared as a new 70... other than that i sometimes regret spending all the mats on my spellfire gear. although it has helped my stats immensely and also you dont have to depend on luck for drops and also competition for drops, i still see gear drop, and also the new badge gear that makes me want to cry about spending all the mats on my crafted pieces, especially if you like to go back and forth between fire and frost, the gear you make will only be good for 1 spec. If you're only doing it for spellstrike... those pieces are BoE and you can still farm the mats, but youll have to buy the cloth or buy a tailors cd. but probably someone in your guild who will do the combine for free. Then again I have been at 70 for a while and have got alot of good use out of them. It just matters how fast you want to get geared and how long you plan on staying in t4 content.

Yes, tailoring is indeed worth the effort. As suggested waiting to 70 and power leveling it is a good way to go b/c you won't be using it much during the grind. Save the cloth you get on a bank toon and it will be all that much easier.

Frost and fire both have great sets that can carry you into the T5 25-man raids gear wise, and when used in conjunction with the Spellstrike set you are golden for quite some time.

Grinding the mats does suck for the epic sets, but their payoff is tremendous. There are plenty of mages who don't have tailoring, but I would strongly suggest having it, whether you want to level it during the grind to 70, or just do it all after.

As for instances - the experiences you have in the lower level instances is much different that how the higher level ones will work. Players will have a better idea of their roles and what to do when you get to 70 (for the most part, but there is always some idiot in the LFG channel).

Tailoring sets for priest work much in the same way, as it does for warlocks. The epic tailoring sets are great for end game raiding and will last you for quite some time.

When I rerolled to horde I took up mining and herbalism to make cash. Once I had my epic flyer and about 4k gold, I dropped the herbs and powerleveled tailoring from 1-375 in one sitting.

I saved ever piece of cloth I found while leveling, as that is what I knew I was gonna do. It ended up costing me around 500g to finish it all off, which is pretty good. So yes, it is really worth it.

Thanks for the replies .

i decided to get Tailoring instead of the skinning/enchanting combo i had.

As i have 5 characters now on horde side all farming as they go along i had plenty of linen to start out so in less than an hour i have now got to the wool which i did have some of but of course not quite enough as yet .

My tip for new tailors/enchanters is just make bolts of linen cloth at first until you get no skill points ,it will get you to around 48 skill points .

That should give you enough bolts to start making the Brown linen robes , which will help you by being disenchanted and get you to around skill 80 , it may be easier to start on a slightly better item but always pick something you can disenchant.

what you need to do is as soon as you can make Bolts of wool cloth is keep making them until you get no skill points they should get you to over 100 easily .

Then pick any item either brown or yellow in skill that can be disenchanted until you get to create bolts of silk cloth and make them until you cannot get any skill points.

Depending on your starting level of course you make items you can use if needed but if a high level make items to disenchant only as that should give you enough to get your enchanting up to a reasonable level.

best tip i have is always make Bolts of cloth as soon as your skill level is high enough , even if not used by you they can always be sold at the Auction House , I have a level 39 Nightelf Priest that has 298 Tailoring so i do understand how to level Tailoring/enchanting fast and at a reasonable cost by just farming alone .Admittedly with help from my level 70 hunter though.

Depending on your server prices it may be possible to buy cloth turn it into Bolts of cloth and resell at no loss ? , That would be a fast and easy way to level tailoring as well...

It is still worth it for frost mages. The set bonus sucks for mages, but the + frost dmg is still great to T5 raids.

At 2% per spell you are only getting ~60 back, which isn't all that significant, and when compared to other set bonuses (tier gear or spellfire) it is pretty sad. Plus, if you are getting hit 60 health isn't going to make up for much when getting hit by anything in a raid, or even while questing...especially to be significant.
