Help with Sap versus RoguesFollow

#1 Apr 29 2008 at 10:02 AM Rating: Excellent
I'm still hanging on to my Nightseye Panther, and despite it I seem to get sapped out of stealth a fair deal more then I sap others out of a stealth.

I'm spamming tab + sap, I see them brieftly and WHAM, they get me first. Like 80% of the time.

Now I understand against humans and rogues with engineering googles... but against any other type of rogue, my the panther should give me the edge. At this rate I'm going to just drop and get the battlemaster trinket...

Is there any trick or macro or what not I'm not using here?

#show sap

/targetenemy
/cast sap

Saps nearest target, always.

If you're not sub with dirty tricks/MoD/Hightened Senses, that's probably why.

I usually use the pre-Vanish to get a sap.

Either way, in 2v2 with my feral druid I don't worry if any team focuses on me first; that's what I want.

Only target if they are within sap range. This is what I use, and I spam it when stealhing against other stealthers...

Mmm. In that case, I do it old school and circle around where I think the rogue should be (some rush straight out, trying to get an opener.) If I don't find one there, I go look by the pillars, getting a sap off if I can. After that, I start getting paranoid as he's either about to bend me over, or he's sitting next to my priest licking his lips.

So when I hear "sh*t! Rogue!" over vent I sap the second and rocket-boot over to save my priest.

Another thing I do (with mixed results, it's awesome when it works though) is distract. Have it spooled up and ready to go in front of you, and spam tab and/or macro to try to get them. When you hear the stealth sound, hit distract. It'll give you the second you need while they get turned around again to find them and either sap (rogue/lawlelf) or open (druid).

Ah this reminds me of a story on my 15 rogue (one I'm trying to level and twink at 29).

I was getting some runs through SFK and I'm hanging out in front of the instance waiting on my guildie. Theres a 30 rogue there and hes duelling all the level 20ish people. I watched where he started his stealth when the duel started and went up and spammed tab and sap. I got it off and started to set up on him and he says "wtf!!" I pop garrote on him and start wailing. He pops vanish and gets immediately booted because of garrote and I keep hitting him. At this point he's at about half health and im trying to put rupture on him. He uses prep and vanishes again and pulls off an ambush and im down while he's at a third. Not a win, but he was twice my level and yelling his head off saying "omg I had to use my CD!"

If I hadn't of gotten that sap off I wouldn't have a story to tell :P

Tyr, I would suggest more than a macro to help. What I always do is try and make note of their position and direction they are heading if I catch a glimpse. After you have a general idea, try and make some tight little circles in the area and switch up your rotation since they may be looking for you too. I use auto run and turn with my mouse. leaving my other hand free to spam. Hope this helps.

What kind of latency do you normally run? I ran into another rogue in AV that kept sapping me before I could get her. She never attacked. Just kept sapping me for a while.

I was curious so I asked a friend to duel me a number of times later. She runs sub 100 at almost all times. I generally run 150ish but sometimes it's closer to 200-250. She got me almost every time.
Just for grins, I had her start up a torrent program on her PC and she said it ended up putting her latency around 200-300. I was able to sap her a lot more now.

I am guessing that latency differences in that milliseconds between when your eyes see them and you hit the button can make a difference. I don't know that it actually can. It just seemed interesting.

This mainly a problem with arena, where both rogues start stealthed.

I've tried out both macro suggested in pve, I got to say I feel like Kavekk's better.... Arena tonights, let's hope this help :)
