good fire spec looking for input for KaraFollow

#1 Apr 28 2008 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
Hey everyone I am a fire mage level 67 and I have created my build through and through what I hope to be by lvl 70 - I have found that playing I do quite well with attacks as such vs 1 mob in outland my typical attack will go:

Frostbolt, fireball, scorch, fireblast, scorch and typically dead - that is with Combustion up - and sometimes after the first frostbolt I will cast and icy veins to speed up spell casting. This typically works well and if fighting two mobs I will sheep the second mob and repeat after killing the first. In the event I am taking on 3 and 4 mobs I will usually sheep 1 frost nova to freeze everything or use the breath of fire attack to slightly confuse my enemies for a couple seconds and release a blast wave or flamestrike attack... I was looking for a bit of input as I am working to become ready for Kara - my guild <Leggo my Aggro> wants me to maintain the fire spec as I can typically crit in the 3K range and I am pretty well specced with gear in my bank with spellstrike gear and Sunfire enchant ready.. The only thing I am looking for input on is whether or not to change from the frost I have to arcane or add more Fire Spec... Any input would be greatly appreciated.

that is my spec

the frost/fire combination is good, the best raiding build in the game is a 0/47/11+3 build. That being said, are you set to be wearing spellfire as well as the spellstrike? In order to be able to take advantage of the build you will need a higher amount of spelldmg/firedmg. Before you get to around 800+ firedamage (I like to say unbuffed) I would go with a heavy-arcane build that will supplement the spelldmg. Something like a 40/18/3 could work well. Or a 40/21/0 although you would need to beef up on spellhit.

The only obvious thing i would point out is that u dont have playing with fire which would increase ur dmg by 3 percent....Of course that is slightly more dmg to take in but it would still help ur dmg output

For your final build, I would suggest moving 5 points around in your fire tree. The 3 points in Imp. Fire Blast to Playing with Fire, and the 2 points in Molten Shields, 1 to Blastwave and then the other to anywhere else (personally I do blazing speed, but its a personal choice really).

If you just have the Spellstrike gear and not the Spellfire set ready, you may want to opt for the 40/21/0 until you get your base +dmg up enough to support a deeper fire build.

As for the Sunfire enchant, as it isn't economical to do it repeatedly, make sure you have a weapon worth putting it on before committing to it (S2 arena dagger moves to honor sometime in the near future, so that comes to mind), so you may want to have the +40 dmg mats around just in case.

Here's a problem with your build. Are you going for PVP, or PVE, or a mix? None of the forementioned goes with your build.

You have Molten shields but no Impact, both of which are somewhat PVP talents. Imp. Fireblast is also an average PVP talent. Yet, you have no blastwave. What's the point of taking only 3/5 ice shards and 4/5 imp. frost bolt? Why take imp. Frostbolt while you have imp. fireball?

Well I have changed it around as of last night:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html?tal=0000000000000000000000050523201230333105312510235000010000000000000

What about that and it would be for more Kara gear raid running and I have about 1500G to do with what I wish not to mention about 2K Gold in Enchanting Mats like 50 Large Prismatic Shards.

let me know what you guys think I should do for gear etc.

thanks,

Personally, I use this build fire raiding. I like the 5 points in Imp Frostbolt for kiting purposes (1 sec rank 1) and 2 points in Imp FN for survivability.

Imp Fire Blast is moderately worthless for raiding. You won't be using it in a rotation ever, so having a faster cool down on it isn't worth the points. I like the 2 points in Arcane Subtlety and 1 point in Blazing Speed, these 3 points can really go anywhere though, there is no "right" place for them.

Also, if when you are just starting into fire, a 10/48/3 build will help you with your mana. Something like this can be nice until you are sure you won't be going OOM in boss fights.

For gear, I would suggest making the Spellfire/Spellstrike sets. The rest of your gear can be filled out in a lot of ways. Heroics/Badge loot being the best way, but using some PvP/Arena items are useful until getting the drops you need from raids.

Starting trinkets like Quag's Eye, Scryer's Bloodgem, or Xi'ri's Gift are all great. If you can get the wand from Hero Underbog, Black Stalk you will be set for a while.

For a weapon the Greatsword of Horrid Dreams is a good starter, but if you can get the S1 dagger that would be even better (really could hold over until SSC or ZA if you can get one of those to drop). There are a couple off-hands that aren't hard to get pre-raid, the Manual of the Nethermancer from Mech is good, as is The Saga of Terokk.

Enchant toward spell damage (obviously) unless you are needing some spell hit (gloves), and be sure to get the glyph from Sha'tar rep Glyph of Power as well.

Hopefully, this will get you going when you get to 70.

A really nice pre kara off-hand would be the Star-Heart Lamp from the black morass.
