2.4.2 Patch NotesFollow

#1 Apr 25 2008 at 8:11 AM Rating: Excellent
The next patch notes are pretty much available on some sites, and in my occasional foray into www.mmo-champion.com I noticed a rather interesting buff to retribution.

Quote:
Seal of the Crusader: This ability now increases the damage dealt by Crusader Strike by 40%.

wondering if they mean SotC or JotC tbh. SotC ok, toss that up, strike, SoC, judge... a bit of a boost in opening burst.

the note after that one is
Quote:
Crusader Strike (Retribution) will now properly receive a damage increase from Seal of The Crusader.
Well it never received a bonus from SotC outside of the AP buff, but from the judgement.

After reading a bit more it seams they mean the seal than the judgement. It's still a very odd and interesting move by blizzard.

maybe an attempt to make SotC not be a waste in opening combat.

in pvp you get a guarenteed 40% boost in damage, and when you judge you can seal Command to finish the fight with the JotC helping you out.

if your BE, then the opening 40% boost is better then the 35% you'd get from Seal of blood off your first swing, so you can judge SotC without wasting any DPS there also.

i still dont think it will make SotC a full time seal, but its a good little buff to help be a proper opening.

Edit: i wander what the highest crit will be now for a Ret Pally. go into a BG and grab the zerk + AW and see what kind of CS crits you can manage on a clothy.

Edit: i forgot about the 40% speed buff that SotC gives. would this actually make SotC a better DPS then both SoComm and SoB?

using some very basic and prolly wrong math, it looks like it is. anyone whos better at it care to figure something out?

SotC loses alot of bonuses and buffs. off the top of my head: sanc aura, JotC, and Fanaticism. not to mention the armor mitigation of white dmg.

in normal fights my CS will account for about 25% of my total dmg(incl CS libram and S3 gloves). SoC/JoC will combine for about 25%. auto pulling in around 35%. the rest being specials like HoW, conc, poison, etc.

if anyone cares to do the math on this to include the speed/AP and CS buff of SotC and take out SoC and spell dmg buffs, feel free. but with SoC/JoC unmitigated bringing in 1/4 the total dmg, im apt to dismiss SotC as viable(except on mana worms post Curator).

note: i pulled the previous figures from SWstats after a Kara run(rounding up for Exorcism use) and noticed some interesting things. my hit rating at the time was 6.7%, my normal missed 2.2% but my CS missed 1.1% and SoC had 0.9%. im curious on the discrepancy with all these attacks being melee regulated. could be just a small sample size. ideas?

hmm, that would be an interesting change. not maybe the biggest boost to our dps, but i know for me that would make it woth judging crusader even on trash mobs. SotC, CS, JotC, SoC would probably be my new standard opening. the extra damage on CS from SotC would be more than opening with JoC so this would be a small boost to our dps. and if the CS benefits from the seal, why not the related judgement. it'd be easy for them to add and make JotC very very useful again. similar to when CS was still a spell not a physical attack.
