As the title says, I just got the Robe of the Elder Scribes in kara and am not sure if i should get some other armor pieces and try and swap out the spellfire set or not.

Robe of the Elder Scribes
27 stamina
29 int
24 spirit

spell crit 24
spell damage 32
effect - when harmful spells land, chance to increase spell damage by 130.

I have the spellstrike duo in case the 2 effects would overlap. Any thoughts on what is a better way to go?

Unless you're talking loot off of Vashj/Kael or BT, Spellfire is almost always the better option unless you need stamina for a fight.

Spellfire together would give you better overall dps because of the increase in overall damage from the int damage.

Good to know. I just was curious as to how it would work out if i invested in the boots of blasting ect.

If you read this again, how does the t4 pieces (one that dropped in kara too but i lost) stack up to the spellstrike set?

Thanks again

Spellstrike is much the same as Spellfire in regards to it requiring at least T5 gear to replace it. And even then, often for sidegrades.

Spellfire set *can* be replaced by badges robes/gloves and Belt of Blasting. It's a sidegrade, but doesn't sacrifice health. On the other hand, Spellfire pants beat everything until Hyjal pretty much, and the helm will last until you get Hex Lord in ZA or VR in TK.

As for Robes of Elder Scribes, they're beat by blue instance robes >.<

I assume you mean spellstrike pants, where there are plenty of upgrades, especially the leggings channeled elements or the badge pants are a partial upgrade, along with the ones off of Mother in BT or T6, but those are much farther down the line than Kaz'rogal.

That being said, I replaced the spellstrike pants with the Solarion pants because of the HP/mana and other stats outweighed them.

Yea, I meant Spellstrike.

When looking at gear with +hit, I always compare how much +hit I gain per lost "pseudo-damage" (converting crit and haste into +dmg). Spellstrike pretty much tops that list for pants until you get the Azgalor ones, and is pretty far up there for any slot (especially at Kara level, where the OP appears to be). If you're already easily hit capped, or have health concerns, that needs to be weighed in separately.

:( I just got it last night and d/e'd my 70 blue robe. I couldn't figure out which would probably be better. I lost some +hit by going with the RoES, but I just regemmed some other gear and gained more overall crit.

Also, if that procs 5% (like WoWwiki says) for the extra +damage, a smart mage playing attention should be able to pay attention with combustion and get some good ignites off of it to boost damage more.

Is it really that bad? :( I mean, I know I'm replacing it with spellfire robe when I get 14 more tailoring levels so... not necessarily a question that will perplex me for long anyhow.
