Animal Handler & Riding CropFollow

Couple questions about these things...

I'm a 350 LW and I'm ready to make my first riding crop. If I'm reading the tooltip correctly on Animal Handler (does not stack with any other effect...), I assume that the Riding Crop bonus just overwrites the mount increase I get from the 2 points I spent here.

Now I know Animal Handler also gives a +hit(i think) to the pet, but....

Does the Riding Crop make the Animal Handler Talent useless, or does the buff to the pet's +hit still make it worth the points? How important does this hunter community value these two points if mount speed is not a factor?

Also - anyone have a nifty little macro to swap the riding crop in/out when they mount/dismount. I'm a macro moron (feel free to use the optional word 'macro').

Thanks!

You get animal handler purely and only for the +hit, the riding speed is a nice bonus.

I dont even use my riding crop btw, that 2% really isnt worth it.

Previous poster answered the hit aspect of your question I'll answer the macro aspect.

/equip Riding Crop
/cast Reins of the Onyx Netherwing Drake

if you want to do a macro, that's the one. I personally don't have a riding crop on my hunter, I didn't feel the extra 2% speed was worth spending the money on the primal mights. So as long as I stay BM, I'm not gonna need a crop.

On a side note, my mount macro actually looks like this:

/use [outdoors, nomounted, flyable] Reins of the Onyx Netherwing Drake; [outdoors, nomounted] Great White Kodo
/dismount [mounted]

That macro uses a flying mount if you can fly (ie. outlands), ground mount if you cannot (ie. azeroth), and if you're mounted, it dismounts you. I use that macro in combination with a mod called ClosetGnome which can switch to a crop automatically every time I become mounted, though as I said, I don't use a crop on my BM hunter.

Titan Bar (addon) will automatically equip and unequip any riding bonus item. It works pretty well with my carrot on a stick.

It has screwed up a couple of times and not unmounted the trinket. Haven't had any problems with the latest update.

/agree with Outfitter.

I use Outfitter and I love it...very easy to use. It automatically equips the crop when mounted and un-equips when I dismount. Also great for swapping in and out of fishing gear instantly. If you carry around multiple sets of gear (like healing/dps or PvP/PvE or whatever you want to swap), Outfitter just makes life so much easier...one click and you're done.

I forget what I used to use, because it's been so long since I've used my riding crap....er That was a real typo, lol. I don't even see the 2% difference- not even when I'm traveling with other people that have the crop (rarely)... However, it is a pretty big increase over people who do not have a riding crop.

If you are BM, animal handler is a really great skill for increasing your pet's DPS. It's the only way to increase your pet's hit rating, and just like with our own hit rating, an additional 1% hit is just like a flat 1% increase in your DPS. So basically for 2 points, you increase your pet's DPS by 4%

it doesn't matter anyways, next smaller fixer patch riding crops will be like an enchant, attatched to your mount :) permanent 10% ftw

I have skybreaker whip, can I enchant multiple mounts with it or will it get eaten after 1 application?

That's a good question. Will the riding crops (and the carrots on a stick, which will be easily craftable) have a set amount of charges, or will we have to buy a new one every time we get a new mount? Hell, I know people who collect exotic mounts and have a macro to randomize what they mount up on. If we have to buy a new crop every time we get a new mount, that would seriously suck.

They're still testing it on the PTR, I personally hope they change their mind on it. I have multiple flying epic mounts I switch in and out of to keep me from getting bored, and that would mean I'd need to buy a ton of riding crops.
