Ok i have to issues about my gear, first let me link my armory

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Frostwolf&n=Myrmidantwon

Question 1)

As u may notice, I'm using two stamina trinkets. If i replace either one with Figurine of the colossus, i will easily be at 103.5% or so avoidance.

Also note, that with current gear tho, I'm actually more around 99.5% avoidance.

I am looking towards sticking with the two stamina trinkets and replacing my shield enchant with +15 block rating. (which will roughly put me 1.5% short avoidance if i put it on my Crest of Sha'atar)

With that said, I'm still skeptical about replacing the shield with Sunward Crest and sticking a +15 block rating on there.

Now, seriously, is the SSO shield truly a better upgrade? I assume its gonna help me hit my avoidance goal, and that is the only reason I would get it, but option two is stick with SHa'atar and reenchant my gloves, bracers and feet enchants for avoidance?

thoughts? Stick with sha'tar and modify other enchants, or go with Dawnforged and stick the +15 block rating on it?

Question 2)
What content should I feel comfortable maintanking, and what content can i start trying to off tank in? (i.e. should i be maintanking prince? should i attempt first few bosses in ZA? etc.)

thank you.

1) put the Figurine on for raids, period. You need uncrushable for the bosses or all that extra stamina won't do you much good.

I see you put 2 Solid Stars in your shield. Since you need more avoidance it would have been better for you to use 2 Enduring Talasite (what I used when I had that shield). Take that into account and see if Block on your shield, with re-gemming, will make you uncrushable. This would be 4 less stamina lost then re-enchanting boots/bracers/gloves.

Comparing the 2 shields with a re-gemmed Crest, the Dawn would give you:
- 407 armor
- 18 Block Rating
- 13 Spell Hit
- 26 Damage/Healing

and you would lose:
- 10 Block Value
- 21 Defense Rating
- 3 Dodge Rating

I don't really have time to go look up the calculations right now (I should really save them somewhere ...), but there you have some numbers to work with to see which would get you closer to uncrushable. If the Dawn shield gets you more avoidance, get it, as doing so will net you less stamina lost then re-enchanting the other 3 items mentioned.

2) As long as you are uncrushable, go ahead and be main tanking everything in Karazhan. ZA is tougher than Prince/Nightbane, so if you haven't tanked those 2 yet, I'd wait for ZA. You also have some blues and Heroic drops to replace still. I did say in another thread for someone with drops left to get from Kara to try ZA, and you could to, but I really think you should get Prince/Nightbane experience first (if you haven't) so you will have a better idea what to expect from ZA.

To put it into perspective a bit: I had the best gear possible from doing Heroics, Tier 4 raids, and buying Badge gear (pre 2.4 stuff) before going into ZA, and so did my healers. Ardent Defender saved my *** a number of times as I was getting pounded, hard. Prince was a breeze at this time, though I hadn't tanked Nightbane yet.

Do whatever you have to in order to be uncrushable for bosses. That Vial of the Sunwell kinda makes me wonder... but okay. Easily replaceable for the extra block.

You're already loaded for Dodge, which is good. You're moving in that direction earlier than most, but you still have gear to keep you uncrushable so you're set.

What exactly were you planning on replacing your shield with? An Aldori Legacy Defender? Lets forget about the badge shield and look at the three immediate upgrades to the Sha'tar...

Sunward Crest gives the most to uncrushable.

Nightbane's shield gives the most to uncritable, and the 2nd most to uncrushable.

Dawnforge Defender gives the least to uncrushable, and none to uncritable... but the most PURE avoidence.

I would definitly take the Sunward anyday.. esp. in your case where you can use a useful trinket (Empyrean Tortise for example since you are JC 375, or a Dawnstone Crab if you can't get Empyrean Sapphire, or Moroe's Lucky Pocket Watch, or another HP trinket) instead of the Figurine of the Colossus.

As for question 2.... You're geared enough to tank Prince. There's nothing in Kara that should cause you trouble if you know what you're doing, the rest of the raid knows what they're doing, and the rest of the raid (ie. the healers especially) are half-decently geared.

You're also more than geared for new-Magtheridon if you have the people for it. I'd put off ZA for a little bit.

eh, i must have forgotten to re-equip trinkets after kael fight in H mgt.

Anyway two trinkets that you should be seeing are commendation and DMC:V

thank you for the advice, I am checking to see if I regem the shatar shield with +4 dodge/+6 stam gems as well as reenchant it will get me the needed avoidance but it doesn't look like it will.

we'll see.

On another note.. I'd consider re-evaluating your talents... You're losing out on 3% more HP and 5% more damage from all sources (read: threat).

I didn't look at your talents at first, but after this post, I did. I must second it. There is no reason at all a Tankadin should not have Sacred Duty and Combat Expertise both maxed. And you are at a point where Reckoning should not be proccing nearly as often as it used to, thus becoming less of a threat builder and more in line with Redoubt: a novelty (except you can't really skip Redoubt =/). 1-Handed Spec will provide more/better threat: it's not chance based and it constant affecting not just your weapon attacks, but spells as well.

I'd get rid of Imp. Hammer of Justice as well. Let me ask you, how often do you take advantage of the reduced CD? Many mobs in raids start becoming immune to the almighty Hammer making the reduced CD more often then not useless. Could easily remove that talent and get 3% more Stamina as well as faster Judgements without touching anything else.

I'm back to Prot for now, so look up my first link before it too late :) If you really want to keep Imp. Hammer of Justice for Heroics, then take the points from Precision.

Maulgak's build there is exactly my preferred raiding build. I consider Spell Warding and Precision to be two wildcard talents that can be re-assigned if you really want something else, but for raid MTing I always have them both.

thank you very much for all the very informative advice. I've made some significat changes to my main tanking set and the like, its just really weird now. Sometimes, having the justicar gloves gives me more defense than when i have the iron gauntlets of the maiden on and other times its vice versa ( i guess depending on shield..)

anyway, I'm doing fine with gear selection as of now, I just make sure to check uncrushability and and uncritability before i tank raid bosses.

I have been tanking heroics with the exalted neck piece from SSO and wow, that thing is godlike. I only wish I was able to reach uncrush/uncrit benchmarks with that item equipped. the 100 dodge bonus for aldor procs almost all the time and truly makes tanking (with ardent defender and the commendation) easy.

As a matter of fact, this past weekend was the first time i tanked Prince in kara and we downed him first try. I even got my t4 helm! (but after the fight i realized i didn't have CE neck equipped but the SSO exalted one, making me quite crushable... no wonder I was taking some hits of like 7k!)

anyway, yeah. that neck is godlike.
