If I am wrong and resiliance didnt kill the feral tree then what did?
HoTs did.
We have zero ways to dispel HoTs or other healing buffs, like Prayer of Mending or Earth Shield. We rely 100% on dealing more damage than our opponent can heal before we die ourselves. This worked in World PvP and old Battlegrounds because you could pick out a target and slowly tear them apart until they had zero mana and could do little more than /beg for their lives.
Now they can heal themselves for all eternity and still do great damage thanks to healing gear now having damage stats as well. Plus you rarely get to be left alone long enough to solo someone in most Battlegrounds.
Can't speak for the Arena, though. I reckon we'd do well as support, probably in a 5v5 match, with a Rogue and Warrior to utilize the Mangle debuff.
World PvP is dead, of course.
Just to give you an example. I managed to find a lone Priest in blue PvP gear (rep gear) guarding the Mage Tower in Eye of the Storm. I unleashed all my awesome fury of the S1 gear I was wearing and he just stood there. She didn't move at all, except to apply Shadow Word: Pain to me, Renew to herself coupled with a Psychic Scream when it was ready. Before I could mash the PvP trinket she'd fired off a 1.5 second 2,000 crit heal and I was back to base one.
While this was going on, she kept Power Word: Shield up and a talent made me take 50% of the damage I dealt to her while the shield stood. I had to shift out and heal twice in the ten minutes I spent on her.
When she was finally low on mana and I saw her health drop and her character move nervously from side to side, four other Horde players spawned at the nearby graveyard and I was toast.
It's not right when a healing class, with a healing talent build, can not only delay their own death at the hand of an overgeared opponent for ten plus minutes, but also deal decent damage in the process.
That's when I realized that I'd gather some gear and go make myself a Restokin.
