<- Healing for DummyFollow

Ok guys I need some massive help. Is there any chance you guys could link me some armory pages to some good holy specs. Our guild is lacking healers horribly and we are planning on instancing a lot from 60-70 and then hopefully moving on to kara. I'm only level 60 at the moment. So if you guys would some specs and advice or explanations would be awesome. Thanks much.

easy pie! just a few things though.

A) LOOK AT THE STICKIES!!! especially dilbrts--its incredible.

B) for spec, i use this: http://wowhead.com/?talent=sVxuMtzheotVMthzh this helps you so that you can heal instances, and then be competitive in PvP at the same time.

C)For gear, you should be fine with OL Greens and things that drop in instances...important stats are +healing, Int, mp5, and spell crit, in that order of importance IMHO.

hope that helped. look at the stickies

Awesome thanks for all the help but I have one question. Why put points into improved Righteous Fury? Wouldn't that make me more of an aggro magnet?

Improved righteous fury is more for solo play and pvp, the 6% reduction is decent. However, if your guild is a levelling one, i would suggest going shockadin for your healers, it helps them play solo questing much much easier, and there's basically no loss of points in the holy tree. You can look at my armory if you like, it's not perfect, i had to scrimp a bit so i could get points into Spiritual focus (needed it for malacrass fight, guild clears za weekly). But the gist is there. Just my input of course, but i always found shockadin to be an enjoyable solo spec, healing spec and pvp spec - you may not get into the 1900 bracket in arenas, but i'm unbeatable in duels, barring warlocks >.<

No offense intended, but dueling means precisely jack. Yea it's fun, but it doesn't get you anything that advances your character. Only pro it has is to learn to fight other classes without the side effects (like, you know, death), but mostly I see it as a way to pass time waiting for a group to get ready for an instance.

Again, I don't mean to bash you at all, so please don't take it that way :) It's more of a roundabout way of getting to the point: Shockadin, while decent for solo play, is unnecessary and very gimp. Ret build will do more damage, Holy will be a better healer, and you can get a good bit of spell damage out of healing gear now as opposed to building up a spell damage kit for Shockadin. It may be fun, but it's not nearly as good as a more specialized build.

To OP: as stated the Imp. Righteous Fury talent is only for a PvP healing build. It has some uses in PvE content, but very limited. It's just in there for BGs/Arena for the Paladin to take less damage. If you don't do any PvP, you can just skip the Prot tree for the most part, though getting Guardian's Favor is a nice bonus, and Kings if you won't have another Paladin around that has specced for it. Other than that, after grabbing all the necessary talents in Holy, you can very well go into the Ret tree and pick up Imp. Might for more utility.

Currently I am Holy, so feel free to check the first link in my sig for the build I use to heal with: solely PvE/raid utility. Note: the points in Toughness, I needed 3 to get to Kings, and had one left over after getting everything else I wanted, so I just threw it in there =/ Not sure why exactly, hehe.

The build linked is really a pvp healing build, for pure pve you should drop 3 points in the prot tree (hammer of justice is least usefull I guess) and take an extra point on imp wisdom and purifying power.

Bod - you're figgin funny :)

To the OP - the sticky has all sample builds/cookie cutters you are looking for. Just start filling them out.

Since your guild is leveling together, it would behoove (I think that is a word) you to level up together. Leveling together makes leveling go MUCH faster. You get better XP from quest rewards than from grinding, so go crank out the quests. The leveling guide (in the Alla Guide section) can help you do this more efficiently.

Also, since you plan on doing lots of instances, then I would recommend you do the real PvE healing spec instead of some mixed up "Holy Wanna be Ret" spec.

For a quick explanation on talents - the Holy ones are quite obvious. The Prot ones will give you better survivability and/or utility. Ret talents = useless to healing.

Mana Regeneration. This is something you may not quite understand at your level since it doesn't become widely available until later on. Mana regen is CRITICAL for a Holy Paladin. If you are oom, then you are useless.

MP5 is mana regen every 5 seconds. When you look at your character window, click on Spells (default is usually Damage) - bottom right section of character window. Then, go to Mana Regen. The value you see is pretty useless and misleading since it only happens when you are not casting (i.e. when you are doing nothing). Hover your mouse over it, and it will tell you your MP5 while casting. That is the important number. Whenever you see people refer to MP5, that is the number they mean.

Spell Crit - another key component of Paladin healing. Every time you crit a healing spell, you get mana back. Woot!! So what is your spell crit? Right above Mana Regen in your character window is Spell crit. Ignore the number you see. Hover your mouse over it, and look at the Holy Crit. That is your real number since all your healing spells are Holy. So if someone asks you about your crit - that is the number you should give.

Basic Healing - Spam Flash of Light, and try to keep everyone topped off. When you see a health bar get around 60%, then cast a Holy Light. Cleanse - use this whenever anyone gets a debuff. Do NOT forget to Cleanse. If you can make it a reflex, then you are a better person :) Why heal through a DoT when you can get rid of it?

Basic Healing 2 - Get Omen. Have everyone in your guild get Omen. Threat meters are really really important, especially for tanks and DPS.

I hope that helps you get started. Now, just follow the sticky and have fun :) Good luck with your guild. It's always fun getting geared up.

Funny you mention that. I'm an engineer by trade, so I love working with numbers. For others, it may not mean as much.

Personally, I like to understand what I'm doing, and how it works. Also, if someone else knows and has any questions/advice, then I'd like to be able to have an intelligent conversation with them about it. That is just me. Others may like to just go with the flow, and that works too.

Like you said - as long as your having fun, it doesn't really matter.

Build
This is the standard Holy Tree build. Imp LoH vs Unyielding faith is debatable, but Mal'ganis is PvP and honestly LoH will only be used once in a blue moon and the bonuses are not enough to make it worth having. 20 points can go down Prot for PvP purposes, Guardians favour, Imp Conc Aura etc. Or you can spec 5 points into Imp BoM, and go into Prot to get BoK for raid buffage purposes. Where you spend your other 20 points is personal preference, don't go too heavy into the Holy tree with extra points and don't try to be a ret hybrid (/ewww).

Gear
Terms of gear at your point you will take plate, mail, leather or cloth. Whatever has the best blend of stats for you. Try to build a strictly +healing set, and then have a leveling set on the side.

Stats
Spirit is useless for pallies.

Int is the base stat, increases mana pool, +healing, and spellcrit.

Mp5 vs Spellcrit. Early on you will use FoL a lot so Mp5 is your friend since they compliment each other. Don't neglect spell crit though. As you progress it becomes necessary to stack more and more spellcrit as you bring Holy Light into your rotation.

+heal by the time you are looking at Karazhan you will need 1000 absolute bare fricking minimum, 1100-1200 recommended.

Add ons

Healbot to start, I prefer Grid + Clique for healing, but a lot of new pallies prefer Healbot since it is easier to set up. Basically both give you full views of groups and healing situation and allow you to assign mouse clicks to healing casts, so I can left click on a guy and it casts FoL, as a healer .5 seconds can be the difference between the heal getting off and the tank dying, this is where you get that .5 seconds.

Omen - Watch your threat, make sure your guild mates use it as well. Pretty much mandatory for PvE now.

Deadly Boss Mods/ Big Wigs if you go into Karazhan

Pallypower is an absolute must if you are a pally. I don't care what spec, get it, get it now. Makes buffing about 100 times easier, especially with multiple pallies in the group.
