Ok, my question is this. Would a BM hunters pet (a bear) be able too off tank trash mobs in kara w/ any success...or would it be destroyed. I've always been marks...but I've been thinking of going BM do to our lack of CC. IF I could use my pet as a trash mob off tank I could (with ice trap) easily CC 2 mobs at once. Please advise. Thank you.

No, your pet can't. You can spec SV and get 2 piece Beast Lord and get used to double trapping though... I'd grab readiness just in case, but as soon as your guild gets another mage to CC in kara, switch back to BM for dps and single target CC.
note: you can double trap without SV or the Beast Lord set, but it will be very difficult to do consistently (especially without Trap Mastery). Wyvern Sting can also help with CC if you remember to scorpid after it breaks. Scatter Shot is also a useful CC skill if you'd rather have that than Readiness.
My suggestion: Get another mage or hunter to help CC, otherwise your dps will go down the tubes.

for your pet to be able to take even 2-3 hits, you'd have to get both the armor and the health talents in your tree, and get full points into stamina and armor on your pet. This, however, would severely detract from the main point of taking a BM hunter to Kara: schweet DPS.
Just go with the cookie cutter BM raid build, and take a high-DPS pet like a ravager, cat, raptor, windserpent or owl.
edit: and it's very easy to chain trap up to three times without any talents into traps. Just make sure that your cooldown is up before the pull.

It would be destroyed. Raids need tanks for a reason. If Hunters could pet tank 10 person content you'd hear a lot of howling from Prot Warriors and Paladins, and Feral Druids.

Go BM, but not for CC. SV has the Hunter enhancing CC Talents. But, there are many mobs (not Bosses) in Kara which, if it comes down to it being necessary (which it shouldn't, but in an emergency...) you can hit Intimidate, turn on Growl, cast Mend Pet, and Pet tank it for 20 seconds or so until the tank can get to it. If you need to do this often, you need a better tank or a better coordinated raid. But it is something that a BM Hunter can do in a pinch. What you should be doing, if you're not already assigned to another mob for CC, is to run up to the mob your Pet is on and drop a Freezing trap.
