1k ArPen a little excessive?Follow

#1 Apr 23 2008 at 3:02 AM Rating: Decent
There is a guy who just left the guild, formerly our MT, and I armoried him and added up all the ArPen gear he has and it's over 1k, and he has Executioner on the wep. He has about 1800 AP and 22% Crit. Not the greatest stats by any means. Oh, I think he has 11 Expertise.

Is the 1k ArPen way too much or what? I'm pretty sure he's PvE'ing btw. What's a good static number of ArPen to have for 2h PvE? I'm just thinking that 1k is too much...any ideas? thx

On a fully debuffed low-armor mob with Executioner up, you need ~1300 ArPen to cap out. However, given how atrocious his other stats are there are likely additional problems he should work on.

Unless he changed specs and gear I don't know why the hell he was your MT.

if he had 3k AP raidbuffed, 25% crit unbuffed in battle, 9% hit with precision and enough expertise rating to eliminate dodge, then i'd say 1k armor pen is "almost there" to the magical 1350 number.

however, since he doesn't have the crit or expertise he needs, i'd say he needs to scale back on ArP and fix crit and expertise.

I still don't understand why you're asking about dps on a former tank.

I'm sorry MF, I guess I could have stated that he did DPS before our Original MT left and he had to take over. Now that he left the guild he's not needed as a tank in the new guild he's in and therefore he is DPS. (hence my question, obviously)

Hope that clears things up a little better for ya MF.

Yeah.

And as for the reading comprehension I know what the OP was asking. I was just wondering why someone would choose a previous prot warrior's dps stats to compare themselves to. In some cases they could still be trying to obtain dps gear to switch with their tanking gear.

He wasn't protection spec with those stats. He was 33/28/0 or something like that. The thing is that he has a full Tank set with 2/8 t6, brutalizer, some t5 etc. Before he was asked to go prot he had a decent DPS set but was d/w. While he was prot he picked up additional DPS gear as I was not there for most of those raids.

I'm not comparing my stats with his, I'm just trying to figure out if 1k ArP was too much considering he has rather crap crit and AP and relatively low Expertise rating. Either way I'm just trying to help the guy not fail anymore than he already is. 22% crit in either stance is quite fail imho when you have access to Hyjal and BT gear.

WTF is ArP? ...no seriously

Armor Penetration (i.e. Your attacks ignore 175 of your opponents armor)

Well ArP is woth more when you have a lot of it.
The more you have the better (up to cap of course).

I guess he went that way and chose all his gear according to that 1 stat.
It is very intraesting how good he is doing. Can you find out how his DPS is now whith such stats?

I do know how all stats work (to some extent :P ) still ArP is like form different story. I don't "feel" it well although I do try to incorporate some of it into my DPS gear.

I'll have to ask. He recently posted on the realm forums that he's willing to buy T5 set for 3k gold lol...So he gets T6 tanking gear leaves the guild and now wants t5 dps ... what a waste of gear.

Purely stacking the ArP like that without the rest of the stats behind it to make it worthwhile kind of defeats the purpose imo. I remember when he had no idea what to do and how to gem his ****. He'd ask me about gear all the time =/
