I have a lvl 47 pally now (protection) It used to b ret but at 42 i switched to prot and i've basically lvl'd off tanking zul farrak but now i'm almost 50 and i really want crusader strike but i don't feel like questing, i wanna lvl to 58 from tanking maraudon, sunken temple, and finally scholomance over and over again. But i know i'll need some possiblities and stuff in the oulands?

Do u think i can tank my way to 70 then switch? Or should i give up on my 57% damage reduction and switch to the hard hitting ret?

The biggest problem you will find when you get to Outland is that an instance run isn't nearly as large a chunk of exp as it is in Azeroth.

The levels take a lot more exp and the instances are, for the most part, shorter. Where a full ZF run will give you 1/4 to 1/3 of a level at 47, a full Ramps run might give you 1/6 to 1/10 of a level at 60.

Basically you'll be running the instances a lot more to get those levels. Then, once you get to level 66, you really can't run any more instances until 67 or 68, depending on how good of a healer you can find for Sethekk halls. You could keep running Mana-Tombs and Auchenai Crypts, but IIRC the mobs cap out at level 65, so you won't be getting nearly as much exp.

I am leveling my pally prot the whole way (from the first talent point I could place I have been prot, and I will stay prot at 70). It's definitely doable, but you will be better off mixing in some Outland questing with your instancing. At least do all the quests in HfP and Zangarmarsh, as everything in Terokkar and beyond will still be green at 70, very easy to solo with a prot pally, and worth a TON of gold towards your epic flyer.

Edit: My recommendation would be to get to 60 in Azeroth by tanking instances. Go to HfP and run Ramps and BF until you are 61.5, then do all of the HfP quests. Move on to Zangarmarsh and do SP and UB for about a level and a half, then do all of the Zangarmarsh quests. By this time you should be of a level to do Mana-Tombs and Crypts and mix in some Terokkar quests if you want.

how about if i go 0/40/21, i won't get crusader strike but i'll b able to tank and get seal of the crusader which when i was lvl 30 it helpped out a crap load at lvl 30. I'm finding it most definitly different lvl'ing as a pally than a hunter. As a BM hunter the lvl's flew by as i quested but with pally it's alot easier to just group up and the best place for groups is an instance, thats what i'm finding so hard. but the damage out put for a pally is minimum at best. Sometimes in parties i get out DPS by the healer :(. It's not hard to hold the threat though

I actually recommend doing a chunk of the hellfire quests before tanking ramps. If you go into ramps in all Azeroth gear, you'll likely be very short on stamina. You can get some really good upgrades doing just a few quests, and most of them can be done by grinding packs of mobs for kills or loot.

I just grabbed a mixed set of "of the champion" and "of the sorcerer" gear off the AH and went right into Ramps without doing any quests in HfP.

If you don't wanna spend the money on the gear you can do the first few quests for 3 or 4 nice plate upgrades.

Stepping into Hellfire I went with a 10/31/11 build at 61. This allowed me to solo pretty effectively with SoC in my ret set, and tank effectively with Holy Shield in my tanking set. The points in holy (Divine Intellect and Spiritual Focus) were there mostly for survivability while questing in my ret set. And leveling up and doing instances, I saved tons of wipes with my ability to heal myself because the healer died for whatever reason.

That's what I did. It requires multiple sets which you should get used to anyway and lets you experience both worlds. At 70 you can spec out of holy to grab the better tanking talents.
