I don't like competition, is being a Hunter for me?Follow

#1 Apr 21 2008 at 2:13 PM Rating: Sub-Default
So I joined this new guild, and we raided Gruul's and I topped the damage meters, and totally owned the other Hunters, woo.

But just today this new Hunter joined with freaking better gear than me,. and the same spec. Now I'm discouraged and unexcited about raiding because I know I'm not going to be number 1 anymore =(

How do I overcome this feeling? I got the feeling also that this will affect my performance because it's all I'll be thinking about during the raid >_>

Just play like you always did.
He's better geared, so he'll probably do beter dps then you.
But all raiders will eventually get good gear. When this happens, you'll be judged by your skills =)
The same thing happened to me. I was always the top hunter in my guild but a better one joined, now we have almost the same gear and we both rule at raids =)

If it's all you think about, use it as a motivator. Don't worry if you do less than him, just do your best and try to do better than him.

Concentrate on the details of your class and focus on squeezing every ounce of DPS out you can, food, flasks, etc. That and enjoy the fact that if better equipment drops, he might already have it.

Go all out and make sure that you do better dps than he does.
Better gear doesnt mean better dps, the guy also needs to know his stuff.
Hell, i'm the worst geared hunter in my guild and i top half the raids i'm in.

I say don't worry about it. Gear does NOT mean skill. I am in a similar position as you. I joined a guild, and most of my gear is from Kara/Gruul with a few pieces from beyond that. Another hunter in the guild has 3 pieces of the new badges gear, her Tier 5 shoulders, a few other pieces from TK/SSC, and some Vengeful gear. If you compare gear alone, you'd think that even though she's Marksman, she would out-DPS me... but that's not the case at all. In fact, I almost always show about 200 more DPS than her.

My motivation is mostly to top my own personal DPS, but knowing that the other hunter might finally cave in and try out BM or SV just keeps me at the top of my game.

1. Atleast he can spell.
2.This would have to be the stupidest thread.

He is just asking for advice, you don't have to make useless comments.

Dude, if my ego were that closely linked to my performance in WoW, I'd have slit my wrists ages ago! LOL! My buddies and I go bonkers when we WIN an arena match.

My gear isn't great, my skills aren't great and amazingly, I still play the game.

My best advice is: improve yourself. It's the only thing you have control over. You cannot control other peoples toons, their skills or their gear. If you don't like being #2, hate the feeling, then encapsulate the feeling and use it to drive yourself to get better gear and more skill. If you have the raw talent, and the sheer drive, you can be the best in the game. Don't lose sight of that raw talent thingy though.

No matter how much you play or practice, if you don't have the raw talent to go with it, you'll never be better than the person that does and puts in less effort than you. That's just life my friend, and some are born to be WoW gods, and some, like myself, are born to be muck-raking peasants. Only through hard work will you find out what you are.

Use it as motivation. Either this new guy has less skill and you could still outperform him, or he is better skilled, and therefore you could learn from him and make yourself better from picking up his tricks or whatever.

Now, if this new guy REPLACES you in the raid group, well..that can be discouraging, but it happens from time to time. Just keep showing up prepared and keep trying to improve the things you can.
