Help with my new shamanFollow

#1 Apr 20 2008 at 9:15 PM Rating: Decent
I was wondering, when i'm out killing everything in sight. Is it mana-effecient to continue to throw up my Lightening shield everytime it runs out? Is it worth it? I'm lvl 26 right now, and dont use any totems except Searing Totem. I still tear through everything. Just wanted to know if it helps to just avoid Lightening shield. How often do ya'll use Lightening shield?

My guess is that if you find yourself running out of mana too much, stop using Lightning Shield, and if you're still fine on mana, go ahead and use it.

But my shaman side project has been untouched for a near month.

I've read somewhere that our lightning shield is the most Mana per Damage spell in our *********** guessing even better if you have it talented). That being said I never used it while leveling...nor in end-game.

Was I missing out on a huge dps increase while soloing? Possible, but very unlikely.

This is what I would do if you have no qualms with hitting the Lighting Shield(Rank X) hotkey you will have to have: Like Raglu said, if you find yourself running out of mana often then don't use it. If you have extra mana, slap it on. Honesty, I don't -think- it will ever be the turning point in a life or death fight. (Unless you like beating low levels in duels by telling them you won't use weapons\spells\totems to win[in this particular scenario I choose to ignore the fact that Lightning Shield is, in fact, a spell.]).

I used neither Searing Totem nor Lightning Shield whilst leveling and here I stand; a healthy Tauren Shaman.

I guess what I'm saying, in a very round about way, is just flip a coin if mana isn't the issue.

Edit: Random Errors

I hardly ever use it. Usually I'll slap it on if I pull more than one mob, this way the others get damage then I can drop magma totem. Seems to work well at the moment.

[quote]I've read somewhere that our lightning shield is the most Mana per Damage spell in our ***************

It used to but now the honor goes to searing, and nova/magma in certain situations. Lightning Shield is about 1.7 - 2.1 base damage/mana which isn't bad as far as enhancement goes, even without spell damage--it's about the same as a base lightning bolt. The better question is: what else will you use? Water shield isn't until 62. If you're having trouble with mana, cut back with shocks first and then the shield.

I viewed lightning shield as "why not?" extra passive damage, and only had it off if I was trying to let stoneclaw get agro. At 62, water shield then becomes a much better choice.
