I'll try to keep this post short and to the point.
I am looking for educated people to help me understand somewhat of a conundrum.
Friend rogue of mine in the guild seems to always out damage me. His DPS usually is a bit lower than mine, I usually hover around 680-760. We both have two piece t4 and so our cycles are the same 1s/5r, rinse repeat.
The main issue that I see however is that my gear seems to be better than his.
On a small note, it seems that when single target tank and spank boss' come up, I start to slowly catch up. But, on trash he destroys me.
If you have any questions to what I do for anything, please post and I will reply with as much detail as possible. Thank you for your help in helping both of us understand what is going on. :)

So, you out-gear him by a little, you use the same cycles on bosses, you pass him on bosses, and you think the problem might be trash? What are you doing on trash?
I had a similar experience running ramparts. I was level 62 and the other rogue was level 61. We were using the same MH and OH weapons (green quest rewards). After we ran the instance he was consistently out DPSing me. I thought that as I was one level higher I should have had a higher DPS. I was matching him on boss fights but not on the trash.
I whispered him afterwards and found out that his abilities (Blade Flurry/AR etc) and trinkets were always on cool down. I saved mine for emergencies and boss fights. Learned a good lesson that day :)
Is it possible he is blowing all his cooldowns at the start of a fight, and hence can out DPS you in the short term?

On trash I basically use the same cycle, 1s/5r. If I don't feel rupture will get the full duration or almost complete duration, I will evic.
what poisons was he using. I typically use deadly poison for 5mans and i tend to rotate targets to have it ticking on 2 mobs at a time. i also used blade flurry whenever we had multiple mobs. both help your dps a lot.
First, a few small things to improve your gear:
- Get the second level shoulder enchant. Grinding the rep sucks, but it's very worth it in the end. My favorite place to grind rep items was the blood elves outside of Black Temple in Shadowmoon.
- Enchant your chest. +6 stats is what you'll be wanting.
- Enchant your boots. +12 agility.
With your weapons alone, you should be able to blow him out of the water. Your talent spec is also quite a bit better than his for PvE.
However, I wouldn't worry too much about trash. The boss fights are what really counts. My usual cycle on trash is 1s/5evis, unless it's a considerably longer trash fight (like the bog lords in SSC, for example), in which case I'll use rupture. The trick on trash is to get SnD up as quickly as possible. Also, don't be afraid to use your cooldowns on trash when appropriate (Blade Flurry for big pulls, etc).

I bet it is Blade Flurry. BF used on 2 targets, together with trinkets and AR can increase your damage quite a lot.
Anyhow - don't guess. Use Recap - it will tell you exactly what abilities he is using and what damage they do. Or go all out and capture the combat log and analyze it with WoWStats.
