I've been raiding as 2/48/11 for a while now and I haven't been monitoring my DPS for very long. Last night was a decent shot at ZA, on bear boss I was averaging 825 DPS, but I forgot to flask. I was also not in the group with the ele shaman, they put me there after by accident. So I could have had about 170 extra spell damage, not sure how much that would have affected my DPS.

I blow every cooldown all the time as fire spec. I just feel like I could possibly do more so I've been looking at other specs, such as arcane/frost.

Right now, my stats are 955 spell damage, 38 spell haste, 18% crit, 167 spell hit. I'm actually 17/0/44 at the moment, I respec'd for a little PVP right now. So my crit would normally be higher in a 2/48/11 build.

Soon I'll be getting the 100 badge robe and regemming my gear. With the spell hit on the robe I can regem and make up an extra ~35 or so spell damage. If arcane/frost is a serious build, I can make up another 51 spell damage through regemming, because of the ghost hit cap. So not taking damage from spec into account, I could be arcane/frost hit capped with 1041 spell damage. With arcane instability and mind mastery, I'd be sitting at 1176 spell damage pumping out frostbolts.

We basically raid kara, ZA, and working on early bosses in SSC/TK, as well as gruul/mag. This spec looks tempting, but I've never tried it.

edit- Would I just spam frostbolts, or could I do some sort of arcane blast/frostbolt rotation if mana is less of an issue (ie: shadow priest ele shaman group which I do get sometimes).

Also I'm not a tailor, and I doubt I will be for a long time. If I did some arcane/frost spell rotation, the one thing that would suck is I'd have to switch from pure death flasks to supreme power. It's much easier for me to farm mats for pure death flasks since I have herbalism and epic flying.

Sorry for wall of text, I'm really curious about this spec given the gear that I have. I don't think I have enough spell damage yet to make deep fire a beastly raid spec.

And silly last question, I don't think mage armor and arcane meditation stack...but do they? If they don't, I assume I use molten armor, since I'd get 30% mana regeneration through talents right?

They do!

If you maximize your mana regen as best you can, spam AB so long as you can. And I mean pure spam. The idea is to have enough Mana/5 that you actually regen more than your frostbolts cost(so you're never stopping DPSing, ever). This may require that you always get the shadowpriest. I was reading a thing on the Oboards about it, and apparently my guildie had heard about it, because he's doing the same thing. Results have been mixed, but he's definitely kicking my *** on trash mobs. I'll see if I can find the post I read about it.

Remember that right now, as a 2/48/11, you're technically at 1098.25 damage on your fireballs. With the 100 badge robe, that's 1138.5. But if gold's not too much of an issue right now, try the respec out and see what you think. You'll either love it or you'll hate it. Or you'll think it's OK. Smiley: wink

Thanks for the advice =). I just respec'd, gonna give it a serious run for a while. Lots of gold spent on living rubies and still more to spend =P

But it should be fun. Something thats a pain will be farming mats for flasks of supreme power, since pure death doesn't boost arcane damage. And my friend is an elixir master who can make pure death but not supreme power. Sigh :P Other then that I'm excited though. We're supposed to raid SSC tonight so I hope enough people are on!

I'm running around trying to setup some mods before the raid, don't think I'll have time to find someone who can make destruction potions (I'd have to farm mats too). I have a feeling I'll be able to spam destruction potions though, something I can rarely ever do in a deep fire spec.

This week or next, hoping to get badge robe, belt of blasting + cards for the crusades deck. I'll give it a serious run for a while and post some results, hopefully in a few weeks.

I'd also like to get WWS setup, but I'm not sure where to start. For now, I'll just fully buff for every raid and watch my DPS and place on the meters using recount. But I'd like to get WWS up and running, so I can really compare the 2 specs in the coming weeks/months.

So just got out of SSC, bad players are bad =(

Wiped on Lurker, alot, but got him to roughly 20-40% on almost all attempts. I didn't know my rotation, my DPS seemed to drop with an arcane blast one though? o.O

I was worried about running OOM with arcane blast, so I probably did it slightly wrong. Most attempts I just spammed frostbolts, and blew cooldowns everytime they were up. If they were close together, for example icy veins, arcane power and icon of silver, I'd try to pop them off together.

I was #1-4 DPS all the time, extremely tight with all the fire mages in my guild. We're all geared roughly the same, and the meters looked no different from when I was fire. Our rogues are just bad, and our warlock (yes, just one) is always in the top 1-4 as well.

Sometimes I was #1, sometimes a fire mage was #1, every encounter the meters were insanely close between 2 fire mages, myself as arcane frost, and an affliction warlock. Like I said, our rogues/melee are just bad at this game, our warriors are better but lurker is a ranged happy fight anyways.

For rotations, should I be doing something like 3x arcane blast, 2x frostbolt, 1x arcane blast, 2x frostbolt, 1x arcane blast, 2x frostbolt? The rotation is confusing, but I ended up pumping 950+ DPS with frostbolt spam alone.

I was actually thinking about it, if you don't have 2xT5 then I'm not sure if it is worth going for arcane blast spam.

Based on my current stats, I just used the theory-craft-o-matic.

It recommends me to use 3x Arcane Blast, 3x Frostbolt given my gear/spec, so I'll try that next time. It was quite accurate on the DPS of pure frostbolt spam that I was putting out, and apparently I can hit 1200+ DPS with that rotation so I'll try it out.

In other happy news (sort of) I'm transfering servers, joining a guild who's 1 boss down in Hyjal and working on Vashj/Kael. Will be nice to raid with people who know how to dodge spouts =)

Apparently pure arcane blast spammed with AP would put me at 2000DPS, but of course I'd be OOM pretty quickly ;)

--------------

I think I'll 3x Arcane Blast, 3x Frostbolt while mana is high. That should keep me close to 1200dps, then when mana starts becoming a concern I'll switch to frostbolt spam (1026 dps). Hopefully I'll average 1125+ DPS on boss fights, it really just depends on what group I'm in. This assumes at least an elemental shaman group, which I was promised I'd be in /dance

With a shadow priest I should be able to 3xAB, 3xFB an entire fight, and maybe even spam AB a little harder. Like I said pure AB spam is 1650+ DPS, and AB+AP spam is 2000 o.O

If we take a long time between trash pulls (ie: drinking time) I can just spam AB to pad my epeen a little :P Generally trash pulls are fast though, so I'll work on figuring a good rotation there.

It's extremely easy to do a WWS report(I just did my first one tonight because our normal WWS guy was out celebrating his birthday).

Do this:
Quote:
If you don't want to install an addon, you can either type this in game :

/console SET CombatLogRangeParty "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangePartyPet "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeFriendlyPlayers "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeFriendlyPlayersPets "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeHostilePlayers "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeHostilePlayersPets "200"
/console SET CombatLogRangeCreature "200"

Then, when starting the raid, type:
/combatlog

After the raid, make sure you've created a user account at wowwebstats, and clicky this linky:
http://wowwebstats.com/wwsc/wwsc24.jnlp

That will help you upload your log.

Then make sure to delete your combat log before the next raid.

even easier is to use the addon clsaver and just specify the distance, it remembers which isntances to turn the combatlog on for and saves it/turns off automatically.

AB rampup is bugged, you do NOT want to have to ramp up AB stacked every 10 seconds like a 3AB/3FB would require. You'll often get higher mana cost without the decreased casting speed (or at least that's what I remember the bug being) because of how the debuff is applied. AB till oom, then Frostbolt with enough AB's in there to keep the stack from falling, so probably 2FB/1AB.

When you're fire, be *sure* your cooldowns are stacking post-20%. If you can't pop IV/Combustion/Drums/Bloodlust/Trinkets then, your damage will suffer.

Interesting...I'm not so sure though. And I can't keep the AB debuff up all the time or I'd really run out of mana quickly. I'll keep an eye out for that, and I read about it a while ago on the mage forums, but it's something I haven't noticed. Tooltip updates at least, ramping AB, and I swear I can feel speed increasing each cast as I ramp. But I'll watch for it tomorrow and let you know if it's something I notice.

Ran a few heroics last night and today, and could put out 1000-1100 DPS with no spell damage buffs/totems. I probably could have pumped more, but I'm still getting used to this spec. For example, I was just focusing on the 3xAB/3xFB rotation while keeping my trinkets and things up. If I mana gemmed early, and optionally mana potted I could have spammed AB alot harder, for example 6xAB/3xFB, but instead I just finished fights with a comfortable amount of mana and never used a gem.
