so meh li'l rogue hit 58 and made it to the outlands. been combat swords up till now and loved every minute of it, absolutely destroyed all comers in world pvp. well, almost all anyway heh heh heh.

looking for a change o' pace here... reading around mutilate sounds fun and stuff.

was gonna go 41-0-8 and fill out subtlety on the way to 70. thoughts? this toon employs the 'red is dead' philosophy with extreme prejudice. would also consider a shadowstep build but that tree is kinda mysterious to me.

I leveled in the Outlands as Mutilate and loved it. Honestly, if the raid damage could compare to combat, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Go down Subtlety until you hit 70. At that point, 41/20/0 will yield higher PvE damage with Precision and Dual Wield Spec. Not sure about PvP Mutilate specs, but you can always look here.

I respecced to mut in outlands and it was great. you take a lot less damage if you do it right because the mob spends half the fight stunned.

some variant of this works very well for pve+pvp builds. i highly reccomend this if you want to pvp a lot 60-69 for honor. (i got enough for my medallion of the alliance before levelling). If you want to stay with it, then respec 20 points into the combat tree.

for solo pve,
cheap shot -> mutilate -> wait for ~70 energy -> kidney shot and get behind it -> double mutilate. if its not dead you have 4-5 CPs to finish it with.
you cant handle links as well with this, so be careful. i personally didnt use mut in hellfire, but as soon as i cleared the quests there i changed.

for 5mans
open with ambush -> mut -> Slice and Dice + attack trinkets, then spam mut while rotating 3-4 SnD with 3-4 Ruptures. Slice and dice is generally more important than rupture is. if your able to, try rotating targets as your poisons land. this is easier to do if you get improved poisons talent, but if your using deadly poison and getting a couple of ticks on multiple mobs it does amazing things for your DPS.

for pvp use a similar rotation, but remember you cant use blind or gouge because your using DoT poisons. in battle grounds i dont use the dot poisons, so i make use of blind and gouge for utility purposes or to use the time to get out of combat and get back into stealth.

I believe this is a bit misleading. You don't have to use deadly poison to get the extra muti damage in PvP, you can use mind-numbing, wound, or crippling poison.

Back to the OP. IMO, mutilate is the best jack of all trades build. The insane CP generation coupled with great energy conserving talents makes this build incredible. I recently respecced to Muti-Sub for pvp. I do realize that muti-combat has better sustained damage, but I've been craving that burst potential that only opportunity can give. I love watching that health bar plummet as I remain at full health. Muti was a great levelling build when I was 63-68 or so.

Quick thread hi-jack here. (Assuming 1v1 PvE here) What do you do as mutilate when every ability you have to get behind the target is on CD? Do you wait it out and let your energy build up for another burst or do you Sinister Strike a bit to finish em off?

Oh, and 120 energy is downright nasty I swear :P

Ambush is a horrible opener. Open with Garrote instead.

For PvP, you should be using Wound MH, Crippling OH. You still get the bonus damage, and there's no worry about breaking CC. Plus, you'll want Crippling up even with Fleet Footed since many classes are slippery (druid, mage, other rogues).

Usually when i am soling (1v1 PVE) I find it real Hard to have everything on CD that allows me to get behind someone. The typical Mutilate Rotaion is CS>Mut>KS>Mut>Mut. That is wih your 120 Energy and by then(usually) the mobs health is so low that another mutilate is over kill. I just finsh them off with auto attack or if Seal Fate procd off last Muti I will 1 CB finish them.

I love Double Mutilating someone esp when Cold Blood is up for one of them : )

wow i completely forgot about cs openers...

mut is a real pita when your dagger skill is underleveled and you can't land a cs, ks, or gouge though. +2 mobs are nigh impossible.

How do you have 120 energy in PvE? Are you using your glad 4piece in PvE?

Muti works excellently for leveling through Outlands. Makes sure your extra 8-19 pts are in sub, maxing out opportunity first.

I respec 41/20/0 everyweek after our raid nights are over..I LOVE it for PVE and PVP...way more fun than combat swords...I wish I would have leveled w/ it given that I didn't "raid" (25 man and za) until 70. ..plus muti is viable in 5 man as targets are usually more stationary than say kara or other dungeons w/ aoe pulls and moving strats etc...now if they could make Muti not be position dependant...ie behind target...i'd totally quit combat swords for good. Who doesn't want 10 extra energy improved healing and fleet footeD?
