Hello, I recently started an arena team with my friends, a resto shaman, a ret paladin (me), a forst mage.

My highest level mage is level 34, can any of you give me some advice and tips as to how a Frost mage fights?

I know my own class well enough, and the resto shaman pretty well too.

I am open to all comments, I didn't even know about Ice Lance till the mage told me about it.

Thanks!

You can watch a few frost mage pvp videos, basically they're about keeping one person controlled with polymorph while you and him burst down a target.

You two should coordinate an attack with you slamming all of your cooldowns on someone right as he is about to finish a shatter combo on a target. (Shatter combo being a mix of attacks on a frozen target)

Frost mages rely on a target being frozen to pump out their maximum damage, so when something is frozen and one of his frostbolts is about to connect, go for the kill, because he can send in an icelance immediately after and the two of you should be able achieve a nasty string of crits.

Also, be nice to the mage, if you see its frozen dont break the frost nova because consequently that makes the mages damage about half what it would have been.

Onto the original question now. Frost mages fight by kiting a lot and really only getting damage in when something is frozen in place. They can get some decent damage if they get a little free space and can get a good flurry of spells off but basically they are gonna save frost nova/pets' freeze till they are 90% sure that nothing is going to interfere with them getting a shatter combo.

(by the way a shatter combo is when something is frozen and they wind up a frostbolt and right as it finishes they shoot an ice lance with it resulting in approximately 4000 damage, plus a fire blast and maybe some more spells)

All good info so far, but you forgot about the best spell a mage has in arena.. counterspell. This is the one spell that a mage has that can mean a win or loss in a battle. If the team your against has a healer then the mage can give your team 8 seconds to kill somthing before they can get healed OR force a early pally bubble. Make sure you mage knows about focus targets and focuse macros for sheep and CS. If he can sheep then CS a holy priest your golden. Sheep CS the pally to force a early bubble then take him out.

or..

he can CS the lock thats about to fear you
the mage about to shatter combo you
the druid about to cyclone you
the mage about to sheep you

The point is is that he can stop heals on the target and CC on your DPS.
