Hey guys i was wondering if anyone has ever tried this build
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/mage/talents.html#none

(insert your laughter here) lol

let me just say my thoughts on this build are when target is frozen(nova in pvp)and (FB spam in PVE) pop AP/AM
should hit like a tank..right? and decent mana management and can still kite.

so im sure you guys will have a ton of reasons why this is sub-par to the 17/0/44 build so please fire away

Kel

I think it would be cool just give it a try, cant hurt.....I personally tend to stay in one tree much more than others but there are alot of options as a mage.....I mess around with PoM and AP in builds all the time, I personally think PoM is better with fire cause of Pyroblast, but give it a try and see what u think.

Right now i am 34/0/27

I can kite well. Admittedly i die slightly faster, but i also hit harder. I'm not saying its incredible, its a good mix for pve and pvp (although i only pvp i did, at one point, pve with this build)

The link didn't work for me, but looking at the point distribution you miss out on mindmastery which would add a good deal of spelldmg though.

here's the link again I dont know what happened on that last post sry bout that

I was sorta torn with the MM i was thinking go with a few more pts in frost (to help improve kitting) and suffer a little less dmg. but other than that ya think this can do good?

anyone ever try this out have any thoughts (frozen target pop AP>AM) target says "damn he unleashed the four wheels of fury cause i was hit by a truck"
or is more like "LOLZ ubernoob is using AM thanks for the easy arena pts"

Make the build again, and this time copy the URL at the bottom, below the calculator itself. You're copying the link to the overall talent generator.

You'll be able to bust out good burst damage, but without you're water elemental and ice barrier you've lost a lot of control you need to deal that burst damage. I think this build would work great for things such as BGs, but in Arenas, especially higher end I'd doubt this would work so well.

I'm not a mage, but I'm willing to bet any of them would slap you silly if you left that point in Permafrost and passed up Icy Veins. I'll leave further advice to others who know what they're talking about.

I have found icebarrier to be a sorta waste or pointless really. now i do realize that i am horrible at pvp thus far and my gear is well a joke to say the least (all this will change someday i am working on it as we speak) and i need to practice practice practice to improve my game and i will.but is it common knowledge that ice barrier is useless other than for maybe questing and 5mans or is it a must have in arena's/BG's?

I've never tried the build, but there's no way that that first tick of AP/AM hits harder on a frozen target than my FB/icelance on a frozen target. Remember that if that first tick of AM crits, it will likely break the nova, which means bye-bye Shatter. Unless...

...since you started casting AM while the target was frozen, do you get the Shatter crit bonus throughout the channeling even if the nova breaks on the first hit? I'd be surprised, but I've never tried it myself.

Ice Barrier is my favorite spell/talent in game....Saves my life everyday when I pull too many mobs or alliance try to gank me....That extra protection usually gives me enough time to react to whatever is happening and complete turn the offensive on them....So if u think ice barrier is pointless u are very much mistaken.

If you're planning to pvp, 17/0/44 is the best spec hands down.
If you're planning to pve, 40/0/21 seems to work quite well for another mage in my guild, he topped me for the first time yday on lurker with me being 10/48/3 (no shadow priest = no iv for me :<).

For pvp you really need defensive cooldowns to keep up your cc a lot more then you need burst damage. Also, the damage that comes from the elemental outweighs the arcane power. That includes the burst damage that comes from shatter combos using the elementals nova.

For pve speccing deeply into the arcane tree without picking up mind mastery is a waste in general.

There are no builds that are optimal in both pve and pvp unless you're a resto sham or holy paladin.

Even resto shamans are gonna have slightly different PVP builds.

A lot of them will be 8/7/46 now to get instant GW, while PVE ones will be 8/0/53, 0/5/56, or even 0/0/61.
