At 70, holy, since I turned 70.

Also, holy forever when I turned 60.

Now I recall being a shadow priest in the levels in between. But since then I've lost a lot of knowledge.

At 70, what is the best spell rotation in groups and in raids that will kep your dps and utility at it's maximum?

Can certain spells be tossed on a mob without breaking CC?

well there is no "set" rotation, more like a check list

1- is VT up? if not, cast it (vt is your #1 priority, it should always be up)
2- is SW:P up?
3- MB on cooldown
4- SW:D on cooldown (interchangable with mb, depending on what you want to cast first)
5- if all the above are up/on cooldown, then mindflay.

As you can see, vt and sw:p should ALWAYS be up, you're there to return mana to your group. MB/SWD on cooldown largely depends on your damage, the lower your damage, the less you should use these (since you will oom a lot faster) and mindflay should be used when all those requirements have been met. Use vampiric embrace anywhere in that rotation.

I believe vampiric embrace is the only spell you can cast on a mob that wont break a cc prematurely.

Cool. Thanks. That looks like pretty much of what I've been doing. Thanks for the confirmation.

Now to try and re-do my gear. I don't guess it's a real good time in the game to switch over to tailoring. :(

Likely to help his guild. Or maybe he was just tired of playing holy.

There's no clear better spec for PvE in the whole healing v shadow debate. It's really a matter of preference. You may personally like healing, but I like shadow because of a few reasons:

  • We provide mana to a group, so our dps can dps more, our healers can heal more, ect.

  • We provide an extra 5% spell damage, and an extra 10% shadow damage (great for long boss fights)

  • At least at the Tier 4 level, we do good dps ourselves

  • In an OSH*T situation, we can drop out of shadowform and heal

  • Granted, we may not be as wanted as holy priests, but we're still a great asset.
