So,i have been workin on gearing up an ele shaman. For some of that gear(im going PvE) ive been grinding honor for vindicators. Do shamans really suck that much at pvp or do they get better (alot better) with better gear. I have a resto druid that i pvp with and is a ton of fun, but this shaman i cannot get a hold of. Basically anyone im facing can beat me 1v1 unless they are a mage(dont ask me why but i can down them pretty easily with a combination of heals bolts and earth shocks). Im aware of all the uses of my totems and do utilize them, but in the end it only seems to slow people down a bit in killing me and not really enough so that i can take them down before they do me in. I only have about 700+dmg so im hoping things will turn around when higher dmg comes my way.

I personally am not too intrested in Pvping with my shaman, but im just wondering, are we really that helpless when someone gets in our face? or am i just doing something monumentally wrong?

If you are experienced could i get some tips and tricks for ele shamans to pwn face? i mean not just hiding behind a tree and hurling bolts of lightning(really cool in its own right) but things to really help when things are getting nasty. Just to make my honor grinding a tad more fun =).

I wouldn't consider myself the most experienced PVPer, but it really depends on if you are looking for Arena PVP or just BG's.

In BG's the best strategy for Ele Shammy is to stay in a group. If you are with 2-3 melee and a healer, even if they aren't helping you necessarily, you stand a much better chance of staying alive since they might not see you in the background.

I have run BG's where I was Number 1, or at least in the top 3 if I didn't die because I stayed in a group. Most of the time though, after you get that first death, it's hard to stay in the group. You have the nice bonus of the NS+EM super Chain lightning at your disposal every 3 minutes and I love to watch my lightning bolts fly with that extra 6 yards of range from behind the warriors/pallies/rogues that are fighting in front of me.

Pretty much if I'm out solo then it depends on the skill of the player vs. me. I've beaten every class, but of course the melee heavy classes tend to be harder. If I have my shield on I can take a little more of a beating, but as Ele you tend to hope that you can burst them down some to scare them into running or doing something stupid. With the high Resil that everyone has nowdays that is getting harder.

Oh and if I get stunlocked by a rogue I try to get off my " Gavinitis rips off <target>'s head and pisses down his throat" Macro before I die lol.

As for Arena I wouldn't want to put in advice here as I have rarely done it. Most of what I have heard though is burst, burst, burst, death unless you're resto.

Anyway that's a quick look at my side of Ele shammy in pvp.

The best description of Elemental PvP I've ever heard was put forth by someone else on this board. (I'd love to give them credit but I can't remember who it was.) It went something like this: "Elemental is great in PvP until someone notices you."

In almost any kind of one-on-one situation Elemental gets destroyed. They're just way too easy to lock down, losing both their main damage spell and all of their healing spells to one silence/interrupt, and since we don't have a panic button or CC, once you get in a hole it's pretty much impossible to crawl out of it.

Stick with a group. Find yourself a crowd to hide in or behind, and focus someone else's target. You're worthless alone. Sad, but unfortunately true.

Thanks for the advice guys, been grinding marks at AB recently and what ive noticed is that your quote is just about perfect, we are very dangerous until someone notices us, very sad, and very true. Also while in AB i had a guy explain to me that apparently, Ele's are invincible in duels. I told him he was an idiot and that any rogue worth his salt with equal gear can take an ele down. he told me i was a noob and that poison cleanse totem and earthbind can ruin a rogues day. i said it doesnt work like that for me...... am i doing something wrong with them or is keeping them up constantly not good enough? is there any other trick to em lol? he said he had 1400 nature dmg, and that he could 2 or 3 shot a rogue easy. a rogue with equal gear can be 2 or 3 shotted by an ele?

basically im asking if anyone with very good gear can tell me if eles scale like that with gear.

Sounds like you've been talking with WeakenedShadow!

That guy was an idiot. Elemental are not invincible in duels. Quite the opposite, in fact; they're pretty bad at them. Assuming equal gear, yes, any Rogue worth his salt will take an Elemental Shaman down. No, Elemental can't two-or-three-shot a Rogue or anything else unless we assume you're both in crappy greens and blues and you get some lucky procs and/or crits. They most definitely can not two-or-three-shot anything in even halfway decent PvP gear.

Do not expect that you are going to scale into that kind of dominance with gear or you are in for some supreme disappointment. Get used to the idea of being group-based artillery, because that is what Elemental is whether you've got full PvP gear on or none at all.

And suddenly, the elemental shaman's definition is easily visualized. A powerhouse that needs support.

I like that description. Artillery.
