Folks;

On my main characters (ktangent, mage & dethgar, warlock)... you're an idiot if you don't pick up tailoring for the UNBELIEVABLY good epic tailoring cloth you can make at 70. Is the same true for leatherworking on a rogue? I've got a lvl 25 rogue that I'm leveling (specifically to join in the mass gankage of mages and warlocks by rogues).

LWing allows you to make some leg armors, some LWer-only combat drums, and the Primalstrike set (which is easily replaced by T4). Honestly, I wouldn't bother.

Same here, I gave up LW a long time ago and went Ingineering instead. The googles are quite nice, they're serving me well even to this day.

BUT, if I was to redo it from scratch, I guess I'd rather go with Enchanting, since I remember seeing some BOP enchants that I would like to have (while the google are ok but replacable). Just my two cents.

Yea, after I get my Enchanting up to max I'm either gonna go JC or Mining.

another thing to keep in mind with engineering is the jumper cables I think very helpful in 5 mans as you level. I dont find my self surviving the wipes as much in end game raids but up through kara and heroics a vanish and use of the jumpers on a party member that rezs can make for a nice time saver.

Check out my armory to see what kind of stats you can expect from mostly crafted gear. I have the Fel Leather set and the Primal Strike set, along with the Engineering goggles. I am flat broke from powerleveling engi from 0, but aside from needing some jewelry and trinket upgrades, I feel I could carry my weight in Kara.

And what about Carpace Of Sun and Shadow(End game chest) he?

Plus Swiftstrike shoulders(I think that new end game gloves are BOE).

Carpace and gloves are drops off the trash with very small chance of showing up to the casual gamer anytime soon. I have seen the Swiftstrike shoulders on my AH one time, going for 600+ g. I thought about it, but the cost of the pattern plus the excessive cost of the Hearts of Darkness did not make them a worthwhile investment as BoP.

Carpace is the sexy though. =)

the BoP gear that you get isn't really worth the time/gold it takes to lvl, only one item i have that is BoP i would actuallly wear and thats the swiftstrike mantle, which pattern drops in MH. the swiftstrike braces, and the epic belt(forget the name)are worth getting, but as there BoE you don't need LW to get them.
if you want to make money from LW the only thing you can really sell with ease is the leg-armour, and even then to make a profit on them you need to grind primals, which you might aswell sell and make the same profit from.

people on my server don't like paying for crafts, they assume if they surply the mats thats enough, what about the time i spent getting the recipe/pattern is that worth nothing??

a sunwell chest pattern turned up on my servers AH, the seller set the price as 30,000g :P

The only BoP items I consider worth it are the engineering goggles, because they allow you to farm primals as well without grinding.

JC BoP gems and the Shadowsong Panther are extremely nice as well.

That player is an asshat or he added one too many zeros. I can see the pattern going for 3k since it is the best chest in the game at this time, but come on...who really has 30k that they can plop down for a pattern?

Actually I can see the epic patterns from sunwell going for 10k or more.

I can make 1.5k gold easily in a week, 10k really isn't out of my price range, especially for something like T2 engineering goggles.

Donate some moola to me Theo =P...

But yeah, there are quite a few people that can make money pretty quick throughout the week (I'm definitely not one of them), so something that's only a few thousand would probably be 'chump change' for them.

I can see that being the case for people who are able to do dailies every day. Hell, I spent 2K just leveling engineering from zero because I got tired of mining when I got to Mithril. I was flat broke on Sunday, I am back up to over 700g this week. This is just from doing dailies on a couple days, farming primals as I did them, and then my daily scan, DE and repost on my alt.

So yea, 10k for the patterns is feasible, but still, 30K?

And yes, I agree, the T2 Engineering goggles are dead sexy as well.

Those are the Rogue T1 Goggles. There is a pattern that drops off the trash in Sunwell for a T2 Version of each. The rogue one would be these.

Congratulations. I am sure this is very easy for someone who has time to do the dailies every day, but, as I mentioned, its quite a bit of money for someone who only does them on Weekends and one or two days out of the week. It may be easier for you to drop that much on one piece of gear, but I had a hard time parting with the 1200 I paid for my Vengance Wrap.

I just made Swiftstrike shoulders...3rd best in game behind new sunwell and the slayers...

For somebody like me who is just starting TK...there's no way I can replace these before WotLK....you can't tell me LW isn't worth it...plus Boots of Utter darkness....

#19 Apr 21 2008 at 7:31 AM Rating: Decent
Shoulders - yes, boots - no. Karazhan boots are as good, ninja boots are much better.
On the other hand, LW is currently my most profitable crafting profession. Yesterday I earned 400g on armor kits (with mats from AH - would be 3 times more if I farmed them, but why bother?).

Btw, my opinion about enchanting for rogues - almost worthless.

Okay... let me summarize what I think I have heard from this thread.

Leatherworking is okay for cash, but doesn't have 'gotta-have' epics that won't be replaced until T5 like tailoring does. Engineering has cool goggles and the ability to kill people with chickens. Mining is required by Engineering and BS. BS is really not for rogues unless you want to go hammersmith for the maces, but that's a lot of grinding of useless (for the rogue) armor to level it up.

Since I have a 70 warlock that does skinning & tailoring, I am fairly well set for cash, so I think I'll go Mining & Engineering as this is primarily going to be a PvP rogue.

Thanks for your responses, all (and let me know if I completely missed the points I summarized above).

enchanting is as usful to a rogue as any other class. it can also be very profitable, on vendor day i made 300g in tips doing mongoose, and 2k selling mats :P

Ummm, I disagree as well. I lvled my EC to 375 pretty much for free. I spent a little going from 360-375 on mats, but not much. Plus I kept all my stuff EC'ed while leveling. It isn't a profit generator so much as it is a savings profession. I also see 2 or 3 ads an hour for people looking for mongoose EC's...once I get it off prince it will be a revenue generator.

Mongoose drops off of Moroes.
Im currently looking at dropping engineering actually. Im keeping enchanting since its at 375 but I no longer need the goggles since I got my t5 and will most likely get t6 within a few weeks. Im considering herbalism so I can gather all the mats I need for flasks/haste pots etc.

The point is not which profession is profitable, but which one gives the rogue something unique. Enchanting only gives us the ring enchants. I think that is not a good enough reason to pick it up.
As far as profits go, I have an enchanter as well, and currently this is probably my least profitable craft. Too much competition. I only do some sharding from time to time. And I have not seen Mongoose drop *even once* in the past year - don't get your hopes too high yet...

As far as profits go, at 350+ Engineering is my moneymaker. Primal farming makes me happy.

JC ain't bad too. The JCs on my realm are effing morons, so no one cuts Swift Skyfire metas. I just transmute the gem (~130g for mats), cut it, and sell it for 200g.

But yeah, Primal Shadow sells for 30g each and I can get ~5 in an hour. You do the math. All I have to do is fly around SMV with my goggles on.
