Since patch 2.3 I've been a little hazy with how spell damage affects paladins. I know +spell damage adds to Seal of Righteousness and Seal of Vengeance output, but how (or does it) affect Seal of Command or judgement damage?

One of the reasons I'm asking is I'm a holy pally about to respec to a 40/0/21 shockadin but I didn't know if I should take the SoComm talent, and if Blessing of Sanctuary will add to my SoComm and JoComm damage. Anyone know?

o.O

http://www.wowwiki.com/Seal_of_Command

Quote:
Seal of Command receives 20% coefficient from normal +spell damage stats, and 29% from +holy damage stats (such as Judgement of the Crusader). Judgement of Command receives 43% coefficient from any +spell damage stats.

That build doesnt get BoSanc, and even if it did, why the heck would it add to SoC damage?? :S

A shockadin with heavy ret and somehow deep enough for a core Protection talent?

I think there's a mix up somewhere in there.

Prob. talking about Sanctity Aura, which affects the judgment definitely, probably the seal as well, not 100% sure though.

Yeah that was a n00b moment for me. I meant Sanctity Aura.

I thought shockadins just used JoR anyway.

They do and should.

To answer your question more.... don't pick up Seal of Command for a shockadin spec. The seal is meant for heavy 2-handers, and shockadin is more sword and board.

I thought about my post a little and I guess I could summarize my question into a multiple-choice format.

A shockadin (specced 40/0/21) would generate the most damage output with:
(a) Seal of Command, using a 2-handed slow weapon
(b) Improved Seal of Righteousness, using a sword and board
(c) Seal of Command, using a sword and board
(d) Improved Seal of Righteousness, using a 2-handed slow weapon

(e) Seal of Vengeance, using a sword and board ??

It depends on what you mean by "most damage output" but when I was playing around Shockadin, SoR simply wasn't responsible for enough of my total damage output for me to justify putting 5 precious talent points into ISoR.

Good point. I did notice that Seal of Vengence stacks up to a nice amount of holy damage after awhile. Seems like more than SoR. I use that now with my holy pally when I solo dailies, but I figured putting 21 points in Ret to get Aura of Sanctity is worth it due to the increased damage output and higher holy shock crits.

Certainly, some people say you aren't a true Shockadin if you don't put 21 points in Ret to get Sanctity Aura. ISoR, however, is in the Holy tree.

You could just... y'know NOT be a shockadin because it's a horrible spec.

With healing gear having a spell damage component now, it's really not worth speccing for shockadin. Just put your points in Holy/Prot like a real healer and if you want to dps just respec back into Ret.

i would immagine that a shockadin build is the best defencive spec for a BG.

decent damage without gimping your healing ability.

or you could do a little bit more damage with Ret and have NO defencive capability . . well, respectively of course, your still a pally. c.c

That's not defensive then, thats defense with some offense. You want best defense, you go Holy/Prot. You are gimping your defense by going into ret instead to make a shockadin. The offense you are gaining by it is not much, not even decent. A shock spell every 15 seconds for mediocre damage, consecrate which just eats mana and the person can avoid by just running out of it, and a seal which doesn't get a huge bonus to sp. damage. Not enough to really matter. Except to maybe finish people off if you want to be a jerk in BGs and steal all the killing blows.

by defense im not only talking about keeping your self alive, but also protecting the flag, if you cant kill anything by yourself then there is little point to guard the farm . . .

also, the best defense is a good offense. (even if its a mediocre offense, its still better then nothing)

my opinions stands, shockadin is a better defense spec then holy/prot. not that id spec either. Meh.
