Ok, I was raiding a lot pre BC then I leveled to 64 and took a break up until about 2 weeks ago.

Pre BC all the locks in my guild where Demonology/Destruction (at the time we where the furthest horde side guild on the server), anyway now after BC everyone seems to be Affliction for UA.

I respected to the same build when I came back to the game because I figure they knew better then me (now I am just in the alt guild but eventually I will be raiding again and back in the main raid guild).

Anyway why in the heck would Affliction/UA be better then Demonology/Demonic Sacrifice/Destruction?

I could see Affliction for leveling but once I start raiding it seems that I will get the most damage output from Demonic Sacrifice 15% spell damage seems like a lot to me.

Maybe someone could shed some light on this situation for me..

Any 25-man raid will benefit from 1-2 Affliction warlocks, not so much for UA as for CoS and CoE with 3/3 Malediction. Also, with Dark Pact, Affliction locks are ideally suited to being on imp duty.

Destruction and Demonology both require a lot of spell-hit to be effective, min suggested spell-hit for 0/21/40 is around 180, and at least 18-20% tooltip crit. Affliction can put points into Suppression early in their raiding career to be hit-capped for 50% of their DPS, and it's less reliant on spell crit.

Oh yea I see most of the locks are using Malediction, where I specked howl of terror, I guess I need to change my build a bit here. But Howl Of Terror instant cast is pretty sweet for solo farming lots of mobs at once.

I have 3/3 Maeldiction and 1 point in Howl of Terror. Although not instant, a cast time of .7 sec does the job when farming multiple mobs :-)

When leveling, there's really no point in taking malediction over iHoT. It's a 25 man raiding talent.

The 15% damage sounds a lot until you factor in that shadow mastery deep in the affliction line gives you a passive 10% shadow damage and dark pact will give you almost infinte mana. The only real issue with affliction is it doesnt scale as well as destruction, and doesnt get as useful gear bonuses toward endgame as demonology, its a great build for starter raids until you get the hit/damage/crit for destro.
