G'day. I've had a MM hunter from lvl 1. Love the playstyle and I've never had anyone complain to me about lack of damage or the such.

However, a few days ago, some guy on rampants was running a damage meter (I know, I know). When he showed the damage he was quite a ways off ahead of me. Granted, I was on my usual trap duties and I'm not sure wether his damage meter was taking fiddo into account. For the record he was a Boomkin and his damage was 37% of the party to my 28% (1st and 2nd according to his dm), with the lock clocking in a 21%. His gear was slightly better, but not much, than mine, but no CC for him.

Still, I've been thinking about giving the BM tree a try. I'm totally new to the BM tree, and I'm raiding occasionally (yes it can be done occasionally if your guild is big enough and you do your job).

Soooo, how's this build?

http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cxbG0gxoiuVoVVMRm] . What do you people think of this? Anything screams wrong to anyone?

BTW is the BM tree so far ahead of everything else as to ditch CC as in MM/SV(those nice SV talents) ?

1: BM doesnt use arcane shot, so no imp. arcane.
2: 4/5 frenzy is enough to keep FI up and frenzy up enough to make that 5th point not that good anymore.
3: 5/5 mortal shots = needed for good dps :P
4: thick hide does nothing whatsoever for you.
5: bestial discipline is needed until ~35-40% crit raidbuffed, then you can look toward putting points from there into endurance.

with all those changes, you end up exactly with the cookie cutter raidspec that is linked in the sticky. ;)

As for CC, its still not that hard with BM, just takes a bit more planning/thinking ahead.

I just went from MM having never played anything else to BM with 43/18/0. (It was meant to be 40/21/0 but I misclicked Smiley: smile }

I don't seem to have too much problem keeping a mob tied down with traps. I miss the Silencing shot for the times when I get given a ranged caster to trap but there are often ways to overcome that.

You certainly suffer more if your pet dies but that seems to happen less often anyway.

I lost about 200AP from talents but my dps is the same and my pets has about doubled.

All in all I'm loving it.

Cobra101: It's a really good thing you misclicked, or you would have missed out on the single best talent in all 3 trees (IMNSHO), The Beast Within. 18 seconds worth of god mode.

With Beast Mastery, it's all out (41 points) or not at all. What you're aiming for in that tree is Serpents Swiftness and TBW, the rest are fillers.

TBW > Scatter Shot for PvE and PvP

Your dps should also increase from respeccing BM, though 18 pts in MM doesnt get you full Mortal Shots, so that could be where some dps is lacking. I'd pay the gold to respec to cookie-cutter BM and then think about your weapon-choice and shot rotation. Congrats on enjoying the new spec though!!!

30 seconds after writing this, I realize what a mistake was made.
TBW > Scatter Shot for BM hunters in both PvE and PvP. Meaning that the other solid talents in MM and SV are great reasons to pick those builds up if they optimize what your are doing. In a non-burst PvP team, Scatter Shot is your best friend. For a CC-happy SV hunter, Scatter Shot helps lock down targets past what is ever necessary, but that's what you're for :D

I'll be taking that pick of 3 frozen targets, 1 scattered, and 1 wyverned the next time I get bored on the new island...

Thanks a lot ...

Been trying the new spec out and .... WOW. I always thought MM was good enough ... I was wrong, I guess. What a difference. Gone with Cookie-cutter build and I'm smoking through mobs, with little CD. Nice indeed.

SV would be better suited to the most active guild hunter, so the raid always has 1 (and not more than 1) of the best raid spec, and the rest are the best dps spec.

I've respecced between dps BM/MM, Arena MM/SV, CC-Master SV/MM, raid SV/MM plenty, so there's lots of SV love here :D

Yea I know :) There's no shortage of SV love on this forum, that's for sure. I was really just trolling for possible rate ups so I can get back to Scholar after my latest foray into the FFXI forum.

(every time I go there I make a mad dash to the "Is this game dying?" threads and explain to them how it is. The fact those threads keep popping up there is enough to make an educated guess in and of itself)
