I have been using the Crystalforged War Axe for some time now and the damage output of it is nice I was looking around the AH for cheap stuff to buy and resell on my bank alt and came across this mace The Hammer of Destiny. http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=31322;source=live

My question is, for 600g buyout with mongoose on it would it make a really nice Ret weapon or not? I like the chance at mana returns to help with going OOM.

PvP a whole lot and after a week straight you should have enough tokens and honor points to pick up a Gladiator's Greatsword. When I played ret, I was stuck with a Crystalforged Axe for awhile too but it's little league compared to the PvP stuff, and the Greatsword is the first step to respectable weapons.

Does a pally care much about the agi from mongoose? Seems a strange enchant to put on a weapon intended for a pally.

Regardless, these days the answer to any "I'm level 70 and my <insert class here> needs a better weapon" question is: BG and BG some more to get old Arena gear.

Well the 120 agi from mongoose is about 5% crit, which for retri should be good as not only is a crit good dps, but it also procs other stuff too. The comments seem to imply its ppm so it should be just as good on a 2hander.

As for the weap, its ok, speed is nice and slow, and the str is nice, however it lacks crit and hit, making it nowhere near as good as the easily obtainable Gladiator's Greatsword But if you aren't pvp inclined then i'd say go for it, gold is so easy to come by that 600g is only a couple of day's worth of dailies.

id say, that the weapon is not good enough to warrent a 600g bill.

pvp, even if you suck at pvp, i would still pvp your way to the great sword.

i was actually impressed when i scrolled over the link. thats a great starter mace. 600g is peanuts with a goose chant already embedded.

to me, Stormherald is still the definitive pally mace til you can get your hands on http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=40603

Already has Mongoose on it? Buy that sexy thing up now! ***** PvP =P

Anyway, gonna hijack here a bit, but didn't want to make a new post:

I've got Gorehowl with a Mongoose enchant right now, but I recently noticed that they changed the stats on Hammer of the Naaru. If I ever go back to Grull's Lair, would it be good to pick up this puppy, or keep my Gorehowl? Little less strength, and no agility, but could that be made up with the gems and be worth trading in for the intellect?

EDIT: messed up link >.<

Identical delay, top end damage, dps, so the comparison is about 2% crit and 10AP for some int and 3 sockets. If you are struggling for AP or Hit then the hammer of the naaru is probably better as you can socket it for hit, but otherwise gorehowl pwns it in every way.

My Ret kit is Hit capped so I'll just stick with Gorehowl :) ty

Wondering which you think would be better to work for as a Retribution Paladin, Twinblade of the Phoenix or Torch of the Damned?

even though they are rated the same DPS, the slower weapon with higher max damage will put out more DPS for a ret pally, and add about 2% to your proc chance of SoComm. plus it has haste to bring it back in line to the twin blades speed.

but you loose out on some awsome stat of the twin blade. . . thats really a tough question to answer

according to maxdps.com the torch wins by 15dps.

What about with Seal of Blood? I guess I figured the Torch of the Damned was a bit better, but the Sword of the Phoenix just looks damn cool! Was hoping you'd all convince me otherwise...to go with the Phoenix! :)

I dunno, the strength brings the AP in line and the Crit is about the same, so all you're really missing are sockets.

With 3 Bold Rubies, it basically comes down to: is 50 haste and .2 slower speed worth giving up 48AP (from buffed strength)?

To which the answer is: @#%^ yes.

I'm a bit dense...so Twinblade or Torch? Weigh in please! :)

I believe Torch would win out is what people are saying. Besides, after all that, wouldn't the strength on Torch make it scale better with BoKings on? That is of course assuming you have the needed number of Paladins to where you'll be getting Kings :)

I'm thinking about going with the Torch of the Damned, even though I like the look of the Twinblade better. Thinking about working on getting a Dragonspine Trophy, Crystalweave Cape, and Band of Devastation to add another +57 Haste with the potential of another +325 if trophy procs. Figure that might add nicely with the haste from the torch.

to the OP i'd have to agree that PVP'ing for the Gladiator's Greatsword (or the mace) would be the better option. however, if you're as against PVP'ing as i am but better at making gold than i am you could definitely get that mace. its a good mace and doesn't even look like they factored mongoose into their price... if so they undervalued it... either way its a good buy and a decent weapon till you either get the S1 weapon or a better raid drop mace. took me almost 3 weeks to get the honor for the gladiator's weapon cause i hate PVP.. i wish i'd have had the g for that mace.
