Level 38... need to hit 40 FASTFollow

#1 Apr 15 2008 at 8:15 AM Rating: Decent
For an Alliance toon that just hit level 38 and is getting a few more bars of rested XP, where is the best place to quest/grind to hit 40?

I have a ton of quests for Duskwallow Marsh, but there is a lot of running around in lousy areas. Is there somewhere else I could quest/grind to 40?

http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?2468135

I'm holding a fishing rod now, but I'm using the
  • Orb of Dar'Orahil
  • in conjunction with
  • Deadly Kris of
  • Shadow Wrath (+11 dmg) until I can get
  • Hypnotic Blade
  • from another SM run.

Am I properly geared for a grind to level 40? I want that mount!!!

Duskwallow is a great place for your level, and there's not that much running around. The 2 quest hubs are linked with a flight path.

I only know of the quest hub on Theramore Isle. There's a second FP in DMarsh?

The second FP is in a small area called Mudsprocket. It is found in south Dustwallow. I agree that this area is a good place to quest and grind at you're level.

yea, great area, very tight quests as well. Was added maybe a year ago...if that.

    Got it, will do.

Now, is my robe outdated? Should I be looking into Shadoweave gear or Robes of the Lich instead of my current robe?

Great advice, guys. I blew through 38 and haven't even turned in all of my quests (my netherweave bags were full, so I am currently resting in the AH) and am a little over 25% through level 39. I'll continue the grind tonight and hope to be doing my mount quest late tonight!

Also, FYI, I've been reading threads about spell rotation, and was curious: now that my
  • Gravestone Scepter
  • is starting to lose its bite, I've been throwing in a Shadow Bolt after Immolate, Curse of Agony, Corruption and Siphon Life (in that order) and have noticed a nice hit (especially if I'm in Shadowtrance at the time) increase, at the cost of mana. I'll soul drain if I need a shard or life tap if I've drawn aggro on an enemy with a significant amount of HP left.

    How am I doing?

fyi, your level 40 mount "quest" is just you talking to your trainer and saying, "yo man, hook me up with a horse" and he gives it to you.

You're kidding, right? No 10-quest chain like every other summoning I have to do?

Warlock level 40 mount is a 90 silver summoning spell bought from a trainer ;)

    That's freakin' sweet.

What did you think of my spell rotation? I'm making great money skinning/herbing, but will probably go skinning/mining as ore is selling for more and once I have the felsteed, I can ride around mining copper to catch up on mining.

    I'm pure Affliction and go:
    1.) Curse of Agony
    2.) Corruption
    3.) Immolate
4.) Life Tap --> Drain Life

Depending on mob level I might do another LT->Drain Life or I might just wand it til dead...and like you said, drain soul if I need shard/mana.

I'm by no means an expert, my lvl 48 Warlock is the highest I've been in WoW so that strategy might not be optimal, it's just what I've done and it's working for me.

I only use Shadowbolt if Shadow Trance kicks in and even then I might not use it.

I am affliction as well and kinda go something like this:

    1. Curse of Agony (or maybe Curse of Tongues if it is a spell caster, but not all the time)
    2. Immolate
    3. Corruption
    4. Life Tap (I usually add Siphon Life here too)
    5. Shadow Bolt
    6. Drain life

Then I will add another SB if I get into Shadow trance or if no ST and mob still has above 25% health, which they usually don't.

Interesting spell rotations. The reason I use Immolate first is the cast time. I'll draw aggro unless I let the VW or Succy work on them for a few, but as I'm backing up, I use CoA (because the longer, the better) and then Corruption and then Siphon Life, and then wand or Drain Life.

If I'm high on mana, I may Shadow Bolt instead of wanding...

I think you will find that you really don't need to throw all you're dots out there. I try to save as much mana as possible so I have as little down time as possible.

    1. Curse of Agony
    2. Corruption
    3. Siphon Life
    4. Wand
    5. Drain Soul to get a little mana back

You can go either way with it in terms of affliction rotations. Mostly on my warlock, I go Agony --> Corruption --> Siphon Life --> Drain Life and then wand as needed, using either life tap or dark pact to top up mana as needed. I don't find I get that much bang for my mana buck by using immolate, but you can go either way with it depending on how you manage your mana. If I get a nightfall proc I may sneak in a shadow bolt (unless the mob is already nearly dead) or use a shadow bolt on another mob to pick another fight as this one is ending.

agree with the proff above me. When I was affliction, its was UA, Agony, Corruption, siphon life, then drain life. I'd only throw my nightfall SB if the mob made me lose my drain life connection. OP doesn't have UA yet so just start with Agony, Corruption, siphon life then drain life should just about do the job depending on your playstyle, drain hunting or drain tanking

Make sure your next point goes into Dark Pact, then you will run around with your imp out set on passive and almost never sit down to drink again.

I'll use Siphon Life if the mob is higher than me, but it seems like a waste on other mobs since the fight never gets close to 30 seconds long.

When I do use SL I put it on first, since it's the most spread out (timewise) DoT that I'd be using.

I guess if I use SL instead of Immolate it might be more worthwhile (rather than them both at the same time). Will have to see if that slows down the fights too drastically...I'd definitely be saving mana and getting more health back to give me even more mana.

Interesting. I will experiment with some new rotations this weekend. Let you know what I find out.
