Et tu, Death Knight? LOLOLLOL @ YOU!Follow

Lookz, I has wicked copy and paste skills... I'm pasting this here because I doubt anyone will read the WoLK FAQ already in place

NEW CLASS: THE DEATH KNIGHT

Naturally, people are pretty worked up about the Death Knight being released. However, many don't seem to understand exactly how unlocking it is going to work. This is what Blizzard has said so far:

In order to unlock the Death Knight, you must perform a series of quests similar to the Onyxia key chain or the Warlock mount quest. This chain will begin somewhere between level 55 and level 70, as Blizzard doesn't want people rushing to level 80 purely so they can play as a Death Knight. When you have completed these quests, you will be able to create a Death Knight character that is pre-leveled to at least level 50 (exact value not confirmed). Your old character WILL NOT be consumed, or augmented, or anything like that. See the section on the Death Knight here to see Blizzard's confirmation of this.

The Death Knight is a tank hybrid, similar to Paladin in that it is a tanking caster, but different in that it focuses on dark damaging spells whereas the Paladin is focused more on holy and healing aspects. The Death Knight utilizes a new "Rune" system, different from Rage, Mana, and Energy. "When you are out of combat, you can switch your active runes around a few types; you have 6 rune slots. Abilities will put certain rune types on cooldowns or may even use multiple runes. Thus, what runes you choose affect how your deathknight plays in combat." There are three rune types: Blood, unholy, and frost. Information found here.

Death Knights will not use shields, but can dual wield as well as use the standard two-handed weapons. They can wear plate armor.

Also, Death Knights ARE NOT superior to the classes already in place. They are different, but not better.

So far, all races will be able to be a Death Knight, though this is subject to change.

Rumor has it that you might not have to be level 80 to unlock the Death Knight... this is still up in the air.

That info's a little outdated. The latest info from Blizzard said simply reaching a certain level would unlock the Death Knight class, and that the quest to free them from the lich king's control would be done on the Death Knight itself.

I haven't read that part yet, probably because I'm not actively keeping up with Blizz's info. At least to me it sounds a bit more epic-ish now if they are going to make the Death Knight like that.

I wonder what type of nifty bonuses we would get when we are "free" from the Lich King.

Nobody knows for certain, but my hope would be.... the ability to group with people and go to the rest of the world?

How I envision it is basically, you start in the beginning death knight area, and need to complete a series of quests. Once you complete that series of quests, you finally break free and are free to join the rest of the world.

This will help cut down on the number of newbie death knights that everyone makes, and will also give people an introduction to their character so that they know how to play before they are set loose in the world. :)

One can only hope they make it hard for people to get done so they can actually know what the hell to do so people aren't completely retarded when they come out of their "controlled time"

The whole point of Blizz nerfing the epic quest chain and only requiring a certain level to unlock the DK option was because they want everyone to experience the content.

It would be bad enough to have to level another 10 levels, start getting attunements and keys AND start some quest that would take a week to finish.

Besides if you're afraid of grouping with noobs, get friend/guild runs in.

I'm thinking the level to unlock the Death Knight will be level 80. Fight off the Lich King's army for the next 10 levels, then become one yourself.

Also, for some reason everytime I think of a Death Knight being preleveled to around 55, I keep thinking of horrible BRD runs...
