Holy - Prot - RetFollow

hey everyone! I really need some advise on what to spec as. Im only lvl 52 so you will prob. say to stick w/ what i have atm until i make it a bit higher. that may be so, but i would really like your 2 cents on what i should do. from 1-45 i was ret. 45-52 prot. i quit w/ ret because i couldent kill like i use to and started to get bored and frustrated. i like prot. but its a pain lvling and i dont really do many instances since i dont have much experience tanking and dont want to annoy whatever group i happen to be with atm. What are all your takes on each class? what are some pros and cons of each?

Well first off everyones going to tell you that your best bet (leveling-wise that is) is to go ret. Ret is the dps talent tree that allows your to crit your enemies down while both prot and holy are going to be long, drawn out battles. If you truly don't like the damage output that you have with Ret I would suggest upgrading your gear or switching classes for good. If you decide to stay Prot I would suggest that you get your first tanking experience out of the way because if you stay prot it's only going to get harder tanking the higher level instances. I suggest getting some guildies together and running a level appropriate instance, warning them beforehand that you are there to practice tanking. Personally i prefer holy pallys because of their mana efficiency and the overall group role.

Start doing some instances and see how you like tanking, if you don't respec to either ret or holy.

I think you mean each spec ... :)

Prot is the tanking spec. The main advantage is that you can take on insane numbers of mobs at once without breaking a sweat. It's weaker against casters, it's very viable in 5 man groups especially and a nice versatile tank overall.

Holy is the healing spec. For leveling you take longer to kill things than ret, and you can't take on nearly as much as a prot can, but you are hard as nails to kill. I would think that most holy paladins are going to be group oriented, because that's where you really shine as a holy paladin.

Ret is the DPS spec, and that's why many people use it for leveling. If you are finding that your damage is a bit lacking at your level, you probably need to upgrade gear (esp your weapon, that is absolutely critical for a retadin due to the importance of white damage). Also there is a nice ret spec guide stickied in these forums (and that guide links other ret guides). Ret has been strengthened recently as well for the endgame, and it's quite a fun spec to play.

Go ret. It's fun and you'll kill things super fast. It's very gear and weapon dependent so upgrade yours as much as possible. Aim for Attack Power, +crit, Agility and +hit bonuses in that order. It's all about maximum damage in minimum time.

You can....go shockadin. It's a less used (?) line but you will still be able to heal in groups while having halfway decent DPS. It all revolves around Holy shock and (if undead or demons are around) exrosism. Don't quote me on it, as I am not truely Shockadin specced; I'm sure someone else can explain it better.

My Idea of a Shockadin build (again, correct me if I'm wrong):mabye?

Most Shockadin builds are 40/0/21, the +10% holy damage from Sanctity Aura is key.
