I just dinged level 54 with my lock. I am mainly Affliction spec'd (42/2/0). The two points in Demonic Embrace. At 50 I respec'd Demonology to get the Felgaurd. My grinding really seemed to slow down so I respec'd back to Affliction. I play on a PVP server and mainly grind and quest my levels. At this point I don't run BGs. When I get higher I will start working on the Battle grounds. I feel like I am at a cross roads, I am not sure which path to travel. I could have spec'd Demonology wrong and that is the reason I was having so much issues with leveling. It seems to me that Affliction is better for grinding/questing and killing aggros, where Demonology seems more one on one battles.
Demo starts to shine more around 56-58 once Felguard gets his good abilities and you have enough talent points to get all the proper supporting talents. If you think you specced wrong, post your spec up someone can reveiw it.
Personally, I tried Felguard at 58, used hin until 64 or so, and honestly the spec is great. Just as good as Affliction IMO, however, I switched back to Affliction as it suits my playstyle more. The choice is really yours, but you do have to make sure you have a proper talent spec and learn the tricks of the spec.

i leveled afflic with a 41/7/X until i got to 70 then i respeced into a SL/SL, i think afflic is the best way to level, iHoT is a life saver, as is dark pact. never tried demon though, i just banish other peps demons when i see them pop out and because i can do that i am not so attracted to the spec.

I liked Afflic personally, it has a lot more versatility. Been using Felguard 68-70 to try it out and really I've had a ton more down time. As Afflic I could go on for ages chain fighting, but now? No way. I'm going to respec soon, when I've confirmed the best raiding spec for afflic.
I'm Demonology and use the FG.
No downtime. I can go forever. You just need to learn the Life Tap/Drain Life/Health Funnel balance. Once you have it, you're good.
It's not just one on one either. I can reliably take on 4 at a time. No more than that though.
