So we've not had a gnome death knight in before. Allowing them now isn't going against any lore. It's just not happened yet. Unless you've seen something where it states that only certain races could ever be death knights?
You're asking them to not stray to pleaser "a few players"... I think you would be a member of "the few" in this case.
Exactly, this is what I was trying to say earlier. People keep mixing up death knight with "Fallen Undead Paladin" this isn't the case. It's just a fallen warrior (not the class... just a combatant) who was raised from the dead by the Lich King and given a Runeblade. The only one who didn't have to go through this was Arthas, since he got Frostmourne. Although it did kind of kill him and reanimate him, just a lot more smoothly. His type switched from human to undead all of a sudden.
It doesn't matter if you're a paladin, a mage, a priest, or a dairy farmer. If the Lich King deems you worthy, he makes you a Death Knight. Historically humans have mostly become death knights because they were the ones mainly fighting the scourge up in Northrend. BEs fought them for a while, then they left and hung out with Illidan instead, that's why you don't see many of them.
Now that there is going to be an offensive against Arthas, you can see how more of the races/classes can become Lich Kings because they will now have the opportunity to. When you make that gnome DK, you are assuming a character after it has already been killed and reanimated as a DK.
